Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

Orville first two seasons have been stellar and exactly in the tone of TNG imo.
I thought it was doing a great job until that stupid season 2 robot war ep. Just garbage, everything I hate about what scifi has become: thinly veiled action schlock. Shooting lasers from every angle, the spectacle!

All the fun went away. It's why I don't watch Disc.

Of course much more light-hearted and funny, but Orville is the real thing.

Also it's already kind of failed or it wouldn't have been relegated to Hulu.
Agreed.

Is this about the what or the how?

Did you like DS9? Did you like Best of Both Worlds?

It's also fine canon-wise because we are in the relative future.

Holographic controls were connonized for future ships way back in DS9. In the future episode where they bring the Defiant back out of Mothballs, there are a few quick quips about how having to move back to analog controls over holographic isn't easy.

I liked elements of DS9 but got tired of the gritty.
I hated the character arcs in season seven, especially the ascension.

I don't mind battle sequences that are tight, but it gets annoying after a few minutes. Sensory overload, and it takes away from the specialness of large scale scenes.

I definitely didn't want gritty to become the new Star Trek tone.

I will go against the TNG fandom grain and say I wasn't crazy about BOBW.
I got tired of the Borg pretty quickly, and they went to that well too often... *ahem, Picard*

Season three of Orville is also make or break.

I so badly wish we could get a version of ST that has the tone of TNG.
I really hope they just go balls out on Hulu, keep the progress going they made in season 2. Since it won't be on a network, I'm hoping for a far more serialized season, then 2.

I do think the space battles on DSC, while stunning visually, are chaotic and have to much going one.

This week's episode of Picard I thought, did a great job of merging new special effects, in with a more classic TNG style battle. Probably held that Jonathan Frakes was the director. He Will also be doing the next two

I'm liking this new character Elnoir. Lots of back story on him in the new book aswell. Been fun learning more about the Romulans

That's also something I think they gotta be careful with: making characters super deep via books. If the main aspects never feature in the series, they may appear shallow.

Just explores why they became close, and more into the culture of his group he's in. This new novel is providing alot of back story I was hoping for in the new comics. Rafi in perticular has a lot of vackatory they will hopefully fill in this season, so she not just a crazy rambling drunk.

Wilson Cruz is no longer going to post about the productions, due to negative fans, trying to take his words and create drama out of them.

Ugggh.

That episode was terrible, we're definitely off the rails where this doesn't feel like Trek anymore, not even a movie, and yeah, the profanity is unacceptable. I swear like a pirate, but Star Trek was always above this. So much for a more evolved people in the future.

Oh, and of course we need to have Picard comment on female nuns as the "most capable fighters in single combat" he's ever seen before a sister later manhandle-chokes her brother to make him say uncle.

Already succumbed to cynical, liberal drivel with kung-fu fighting. Same shit that ruined Discovery after that incredibly promising pilot episode. I'll probably be checking out, soon. Even Stewart can't save material like this from itself.

How many times has he claimed to have inside knowledge of Discovery being cancelled? Few months ago it was cbs was very unhappy with Picard, and had fired Kurtzman. He has no inside sources, he scours the incel dens, looking for rumors then passes them off as inside source.

All I'm saying is he was spot on about the TROS movie

Picard is getting devastating reviews on IMDB.
People think it´s not good.

But I´ll watch Picard till the end.

Bene Gesserit?

Bene Gesserit?
Different universe, different rules-- just like the Jedi.

It wouldn't be hard to establish an alien species with physically dominant female gender in Star Trek. That's not Romulans.

The reviews have been ridiculous, which is another issue with Fandom In general. It either gets 1 star or 10 stars
