Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

So it turns out that the "inside sources" the Star Trek hating yet somehow popular channels like midnights edge, doomcock, nerdtastic, ect... These sites always make outrageous claim about having inside source working within CBS, who feeds them info about the impending doom of Discovery, Kurtzman, ect. Recent videos by them and articles steaming from there videos have said McFarlane and NBC were tryi g to buy Star Trek, and Alex Kurtzman has secretly been fired and replaced by Ronald D Moore, Ira Bher and Doug Drexler.

Turns out the "inside sources" have been 4chan posters. These posters have seen what control they have over these content producers, so have been making up BS for them to leak for years. Today the 4chan people exposed what they have been doing. So far no statements from the youtube creators

I actually like this guy and he does always fully declare everything to be rumors but I was surprised when he even said he got this info from that 4chan crap website

but then again his Rise of Skywalker rumors were pretty damn accurate

So does this mean NBC and Macfarlane never even tried to buy it? That’s funny.

Basically 80% of the star trek rumors you see eminent from a group of about 5 youtubers, who basically have made an audience by hating on new star trek, star wars, marvel ect, and basically make up stories about having inside sources at CBS, or people working for the Redstone family. They always claim things are horrible inside those organizations, but they have inside sources telling them shows are being canceled or people are being fired, and New people they like will be put in charge. Basically fake news channels for Sci fi geek culture. Various blogging sites, or cluck bait news sites, would then post articles, based on info from those YouTube channels and pass it off as real.

Turns out there inside sources were posters on 4chan. After years of doing this, a group on 4chan came forward, admitting they have been feeding them this fake star trek news, and made a post to finally expose them

How many times has he claimed to have inside knowledge of Discovery being cancelled? Few months ago it was cbs was very unhappy with Picard, and had fired Kurtzman. He has no inside sources, he scours the incel dens, looking for rumors then passes them off as inside source.

Not surprised that they were being trolled to a certain extent, but they do have legit sources for some things. The leaks that Doomcock reported for Game of Thrones season 8 and The Rise of Skywalker turned out to be accurate more or less.

Personally, I don't care if the Star Trek leaks are accurate, I agree with most of the Fandom menace channels about the sorry state of the franchise and the way that CBS and Kurtzman have fucked it up.

LOL wow.

Sorry but

That's the Trump syndrome: the facts don't matter as long as someone is of the same opinion as me.

Spare us your false political analogies. lol

I think what he's getting at is he doesn't care for the STD garbage regardless of whether or not some you tubers got duped about certain details. There are plenty of valid criticisms of STD.

They were fed bullshit and willingly spread it and should be called out on it. This is no situation for whataboutism. You can dislike Discovery (I haven't watched the final two episodes of season 2 yet because I found it increasingly unbearable) without resorting to spreading bullshit.

I never watched the you tube channel in question, but I interpreted the other posters statement you quoted to mean that the faults of the show are too much to look past regardless of what those you tube posters had right or didn't about behind the scenes rumors.

Well I'm sorry if that was the intent, but I don't think anyone said that Discovery is somehow vindicated because its detractors are spreading fake news. This goes more in the direction of Kurtzman and others imo.

Don´t know if I like those holographic ship controls.
I loved those Trek panels.

There are perfectly valid reasons why you may dislike Discovery. I have some myself. But a lot of those youtube channels, and it seems the people that hate Discovery, usually site stuff like, Its SJW bs, women as the leads, its too political, ect. Those reasons are always weird to me because Star Trek has always been about a utopia fairly liberal future, embracing new cultures and ideas, science, and relaying the politics of today into science fiction stories. Discovery and Picard, still largely fulfill those.

I have issues with how it has changed canon, altered the way some of the aliens look, story pacing, and a pretty boring lead in Burnham. But the show also has had some great stories, stunning production values, and an ever improving story. For me, t's hard to take anyone serious when they refer to it as STD. It's DSC. Just like how Voyager is referred to as VOY, not STV.

They sure look cool though. I think most Star Fleet vessels will still have consoles. Rio's is used to being alone and has everything automated or easily access with his holographic controls.

It goes to show really how far our technology has changed in the past 30 years. To wear the holographic technology doesn't even seemed that farfetched anymore.

It's also fine canon-wise because we are in the relative future.

I think all of the innuendo/symbolism in the early Star Trek was tastefully done, but this show doesn't really have masterful innuendo. And, in addition to that, the individual performances have been downright terrible at times. The show will always be "STD" to me. It just doesn't deserve better. Picard (thus far) is not in the same camp as STD as far as I am concerned. Picard is a far better production.

Could say the same about the first 2 seasons of TNG. Most the acting outside Stewart and Spiner was awful, and outside a few gems, most of the nearly 50 episodes in the first 2 seasons were pretty bad and cringy. Old TOS Fans also complained about about similar things, that new DSC hating fans complain about. Only difference is they didn't have the internet to rage on. TNG wouldn't have survived its first 2 season in the internet era(not comparing modern day production values). Star trek would have been dead and gone, so the old bitter haters could have there Kirk, Spock, Bones reruns to keep them happy. That's an issue in all Fandom today, but I have noticed it so much with Discovery. IMO season 3 is make or break for DSC, as it has been for many of the other treks.

Season three of Orville is also make or break.

I so badly wish we could get a version of ST that has the tone of TNG.

Orville first two seasons have been stellar and exactly in the tone of TNG imo. Of course much more light-hearted and funny, but Orville is the real thing.

Also it's already kind of failed or it wouldn't have been relegated to Hulu.

I didn't watch the first run of the first 2-3 seasons of TNG or DS9 for that reason. Some things you just can't take back though (like those hideous, expressionless Klingons).
