Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

VI is my favorite. The only other Trek films I liked were II and Nemesis (unorthodox, I know).
You need to look up the original concept for nemesis, it would have been epic(and the follow up they had planned). I actually enjoyed Nemesis aswell. I think the director was a terrible choice, and he's never directed again.

Its the 40th anniversary of TMP. It will be released into theaters later this month, for one night. They are also apparently going to be giving TMP the full 4k UHD restoration treatment. Would you guys buy TMP in 4K? I will probably buy it. TMP is a boring and slow film, but it is gorgeous and was groundbreaking when it came out. Robert Wise is one of the great directors in cinema history and made a stunning film, but just an OK Star Trek story, which isn't bis fault. He was stuck into between a power struggle between Gene Roddenberry and Paramount.

So I am looking forward to how this plays out. Spiner said already he is not gonna be a major character, while Ryan said she is not in every episode but sounded still like it is not only a minor thing.

I didn't say it was the greatest time. I said we could be entering the Greatest time, with all the cool shit coming out. Sadly with every new trek series, many fans bash it out of the gate. Then years later, it's those same fans favorite show. If TNG aired today, and encounter at Farpoint was the premiere episode, it would have been eviscerated online, and the show would have likely never taken off. The first two seasons of TNG were pretty bad, with a few gems thrown in. Now it's considered one of the greatest shows of all time. I don't understand how some people can be upset or negative about getting new star trek. We had a long drought with no new Star Trek, so I'm excited to see it become a priority for CBS, and not the red-headed stepchild. Sure not everyone is going to love it all, but its an exciting time to Be a trek fan.
There are always criticisms of new shows, and some are justified (TNG and DS9 both started slow and took time to develop their characters), but this is just not on the same level.

I’m fully expecting this to go full Force Awakens where outside of Picard himself any other appearances from former Star Trek characters will be brief and only function to satisfy some nostalgia but the focus of the show will be its new characters like Rey, Finn and Poe.

Well that would not be a bad thing necessarily, not because I think not that The Force awakens was such a good movie, but I think that Picard also needs to lay the foundation for the future of Star Trek. And therefore I believe introducing strong characters and also introducing new storylines that also additional series could use as a launch pad would be a great thing to do. And I do not believe that we can entirely rely on the old characters to carry the story. I think in the case of Picard maybe, but then it would only be Picard and it would not be something that could develop into more than that.

I’m not saying it’s a good thing or a bad thing, I’m just saying don’t expect a lot of screen time for 7 or Data, or any other old characters they drudge up for cameos.

The fact that both are set to appear in multiple episodes shows it's not just cameos, though. So far, all appearances seem to follow a storyline logic (Troi/Riker as a couple; Seven for the Borg; Data because of Nemesis). So far there is no word of Geordi, Worf, or Crusher appearing. Kurtzman did say they won't do these appearances just for the heck of it, they would need a good story reason.

Data is apparently a regular cast member. The other old TNG cast members will likely just be cameos.

If we see Worf, will we see his old make up or this new STD garbage prostetics?

New adventures aside, it would be nice to see OS, TNG, and DS9 characters in Picard cameos.

I’m more interested in whether Worf will still be in the midst of his career as an ambassador to the Klingon Empire, or if he’ll inexplicably be back in starfleet like he was in Nemesis.

Either narrative could work, but I would doubt we would see him still in Star Fleet.

In the books he's currently 1st officer of the Enterprise E. Countdown comics he was still an ambassador

Gotta say I'm a big fan of the captain on discovery. He seems like he gets shit done.

I'm going to watch it in 4K for sure. It's my second favorite Trek film after Khan, and visually, it's SPECTACULAR.

Haha the star trek producer bought Frakes this shirt, and told him to start wearing it.
