Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

Remember it is in Canon that Data, can in fact age. Here's a quote from the episode, Inheritance, which talks about Soong type androids

LAFORGE: Basically she's a Soong-type android, except everything about her is designed to fool you into thinking she's human.
CRUSHER: She's got tear ducts, sweat glands, even veins and capillaries underneath her skin.
RIKER: Why does the scanner read her as a human?
CRUSHER: Because she has a feedback processor designed to send out a false bio-signal.
LAFORGE: It's part of her aging programme. Not only does she age in appearance like Data, her vital signs change too.

So just watched the first episode of Discovery and I don't see what all the fuss is about. I liked it. Though the Klingon design is god awful. I try to look past that.

Where does discovery fall on the timeline?

Before Kirk's Enterprise, around the time of Christopher Pike's Enterprise.

I couldn't get past the horrible Klingon make up and prosthetics.

Awh man. That means no chance of the borg. Nice to see the Klingons and federation at war though.

So after the first three episodes, I can say that I'm invested. Can't wait to see how this unfolds.

Gets much better as it goes along. My main issues with DSC are the Klingon Make up, and the pacing of the show. Otherwise, it's a great show, and they actually listen to the fans and adjust season to season.

I actually hope that Picard will be a huge success and shows that a show that is different from the insane DSC pace can work.

I can't wait to see what they do with the borg. I'm fucking hyped. Hopefully Q makes an appearance too.

I think we are entering the greatest time ever to be a trek fan. Kurtzman wants to make Star Trek into the next Lucas Film or Marvel, as far as an organization. He is going to make a variety of content for all fans. He has said, he spends lots of time reading the various forums and trek news sites, to get feedback from fans, and adjust to what he reads. I think with Chabon being named showrunner, really shows what kind of show Picard will be. It's going to be clever, cerebral Sci-Fi, but will respect the character. At least I hope it is...

It is STLV weekend. The biggest Trek convention in the world. Expect some big news this weekend. One of these years, I need to make it down to Vegas for it.

This is the con at which Stewart announced 'Picard' last year, correct?

The best time ever to be a Star Trek fan was the 90s: TNG was in its prime, DS9 had its entire run, Voyager had almost its entire run, and we got four Trek movies, a couple of which were good.

Discovery sucks dick, so do the JJ movies, so I’d hardly call this the greatest time to be a Trek fan. Picard could turn out to be awesome but we’ll have to wait and see.

As for making Star Trek the next Lucasfilm or MCU that’s basically where Star Trek was 25 years ago with the amount of content they had coming out.

Ditto. We also had Star Trek VI in the 90's.

Calling now the "greatest time to be a Star Trek fan" is a gross overstatement.

It has just never gotten back to the quality of the TNG series. A huge standard to be sure. I want Picard to be successful, but am not sure I will watch.

Its most definitely the worst time to be a Star Trek fan

You've missed all the good Star Trek shows and movies

What you have left is soulless garbage that only exists to exploit your love for the old Star Trek

Truly an amazing time to be alive

Picard is relying on nerd nostalgia

There is no way that it wont be average at best or terrible at the worst

Picard returning just shows how desperate they are for all access subs down at CBS
One of the main problems I see right away, and it's happened often enough: they gotta bring in the old characters for money reasons, and that automatically hampers the story because they have to give them things to do.

Fucking martial arts in a Star Trek show, holy shit
