Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

Ok not trying to talk politics but is trump for real? It is literally a copy of the untied federation of planets, with a star fleet badge on top. Can CBS sue the Space force lol

Obviously quite a few Star Trek fans advising him on this. Not surprising considering how deeply ingrained Star Trek is in our culture. Star Trek use to have a fringe fan base. Today it has a mainstream fan base that spans multiple generations.

I doubt CBS would have any desire to sue the federal government. It's free advertising.

That's pretty fucked up

Really Picard is better than I hoped for so far. Pretty blown away.

I bought in and watched episode one. It is a strong start, and I like the cinematic quality of it. Nothing about it pissed me off.
I said the exact same thing to my friend, it's about the highest praise i can give to a modern show

I like that Dage is Data's creation. I thought that was a great twist that actually makes sense. I thought she was just gonna be some rando Jason Bourne or something that's important for "some reason" but her being Data's daughter and the tie in with synthetics being banned is actually smart.

They had mixed reviews of Discovery, but all of them do watch and enjoy it now. One of them loves anything star trek and never says anything bad about it, one hated the first season(Klingons, Burnham, frantic pace) but liked Lorca and really thought they improved with season 2. 3rd is kinda a kix of the 2, but was really unhappy initially with them changing the Klingons, and how different the tech was, and how it didn't fit in with TOS, but was won over with the production values, and the improving story.

I disliked STD initially, then grew to hate it, outside some performances, like Lorca, Saru, Stammits (sp?) and Pike (#1 still HAF too). I actually liked the guy playing Spock, but him licking Burnham's twat (like everyone else does) was repulsive, metaphorically speaking lol.

That being said, I really enjoyed the first ep of Picard. I have some issues with it, but my expectations were so low, that it came of glorious

I really liked the aesthetic, especially the archives scene that you mention below. Starfleet HQ overall looked money.

It was so awesome to see the Enterprise D at the beginning, telling me this isn't JJ's/Bad Reboot's alt timeline crap. The story is intriguing, and I'm excited to see the new crew they bring on board. I hope they develop them well. The series will live and die in that.

My issues so far was the dialogue between Doge (sp?) and her bf, sounded something out of the CW, but it was short lived. The rest felt Star Trek-like. I also don't like that Starfleet abandoned the Romulan rescue process, they better explain that well.

I thought the tech looked a lot more in place in Picard than DSC. I loved on the Star Fleet archives they modern Lcars display, with the holograms. Tons of cools little gems packed in that room.

Am excited to see where this show is going.
Was super impressed with the first episode

No, that basic design has been around since at least the early 2000's. A buddy of mine was in the Air Force Space Command and this is the insignia he wore. Now, you could make an argument that it was copied from the Federation design, but that was a long time before Trump. People just love to fling shit at Trump hoping something sticks.

Uh, maybe you should read my post before criticizing? I said that Trump's people likely copied the existing Space Command emblem, but that the Space Command may have very well copied the trek emblem years ago.

Btw I would expect that the revelation about what happened is bad news for one of the TNG characters.

Geordi LaForge is leading the Utopia Planitia in the countdown comics.

Naah. Stewart was recently interviewed about characters that potentially might show up in season 2, and it was clear that none were ruled out.

I do remember one book them talking about the shipyards. Most of the work happens in orbit of Mars, and the planet its self mainly held small settlements and research facilities. I don't think they are killing him off. At least some of the crew has to still be in Star Fleet. EIther Worf or Geordie would have likely taken over as captain of the 1701E, but since Geordie was out in charge of the shipbuilding, maybe Worf is still cruising around in the big E

I browsed lots of commentary sections where I knew people were tearing apart Discovery and shat all over Kurtzman. It's overwhelmingly positive. Like from cautiously optimistic to enthusiastic, but I haven't read a single negative opinion on the first episode. Looks like so far, they really struck that delicate balance between old and new, acknowledging Canon, pacing, and a compelling story.
