The Soccer Kick

I love them! Soccer kicks = more decisive finishes.

The sports been around for a long time, and soccer kicks have been there since the beginning. If anyone can point to a specific instance where a soccer kick caused serious injury or death, so be it, but until then, if you want to bitch about how horribly unsafe soccer kicks are:

12-6 elbows are really great to batter the thighs in certain positions, also great against the ribs to counter deep half guard.
 
Knees to the head of a grounded opponent? Yes, a must-add to the unified rules.
Soccer kicks? I'll pass.
 
Eh a lot of those kicks came after the fight should have been stopped anyway.

The ref should have stopped the fight after most of those knockdowns, as the guy on the ground could not defend himself.

Soccer kick to KO'd opponent before the ref can step in risks very serious injury. Yeah they look cool but I don't think they're necessary.

Soccer kicks just abruptly end fights that shouldn't go on any longer in the first place.

Anyways I don't really care much about brutal. It's fighting. And with grounded knees and soccer kicks, there is nowhere to hide. You can't just sit there in turtle position, leaning on stupid rules while you get peppered in the ear with gloved fists for 5 minutes. You can be attacked by the same means as if you were standing, so you may as well tap.

It does highlight the issue that the cage can make soccer kicks, knees and stomps more difficult to avoid but honestly I think US MMA fans have a rather myoptic view here. The idea of GnP has become normalised for them but trust me it looks terrible in the eyes of a lot of casual viewers, really something like Hendo dropping that elbow on Bisping is just as bad as any soccer kick.

Something about foot stumps and soccer kicks to the head that makes me cringe. I love it! Bring back soccer kicks!

So I don't want an unsavoury incident to give those who would like the sport banned a whole tonne of ammunition.

Can you imagine the indignation someone like Bill O'Reilly would whip up if there was a serious injury or death from a soccer kick in the UFC? It's seriously not worth the risk.

You can continue to get your fix in ONE FC though, enjoy.
