it's a good book to read in public if you want attention. I was riding a bus one evening through mississauga while reading the satanic bible, and a guy a few seats away was like, 'hey, that's an interesting book. but have you ever seen....this book??' all dramatically and pulls a bible out of his bag. then he said, 'the idea that there isn't a god would be so random and absurd, that you might as well say a t-rex could randomly smash through this bus right now.'
The book was most useful to me in removing some of the mystique from the occult, describing how rituals work and so on.

Funny thing is not too long ago most of these "pious and peaceful" christians would have felt perfectly justified in killing any of us just for reading a book like this.

Satanism [as established by LaVey] isnt about worshipping the dude with horns and pitchfork. Its basically ritualized atheism, and Lavey even says as much. He doesnt believe in the devil, or spirits, or Jesus. Its just anti-Christianity born out of his distate towards the hypocrisy of Christians.
Actually I know a lot more about the history of the church than you ever will.
The world would be a much better place without christianity, no witch hunts, no persucutions, no wars against science. Imagine where we'd be today intellectually if we didn't have the church controlling what we thought for the past 2000 years.
As for the muslim faith, it's just another religion that sucks nearly as bad as Christianity and frankly they're a lot more similar than you think. They share the exact same foundation. Of course it'd suck to live in those countries, just like it sucked to live in christian countries for most of the past 2000 years, our governments just wisened up a bit quicker and took their power away.
And most Satanists use Lucifer as an archetype, they don't actually believe in him. Moreover Lucifer was known as the wisest of all the angels and the bearer of light, wich means he was the personification of enlightenment itself.

Interesting fact: Jesus himself if he appeared a few hundred years after he did would have been tried and convicted of being a warlock by his own church for studying at the jewish mystery schools and performing the miracles he did.

It seems that you don't know very much about what people who consider themselves true Satanists actually believe, or about the subject itself as a whole. From what I understand, Satanism is just a way of life, and is not based on the actual belief of a fallen angel who lost a battle in heaven and is now damned to live in the bowels of hell with the rest of us "sinners". Satanists reject the idea of the Catholic church and embrace the idea of the things that they consider "sinful"...Depriving ourselves of living a happy life because a mythical man in the sky said we shouldn't thousands of years ago. Satanists believe in enjoying the earthly pleasures that God says we shouldn't (food, sex, money, alcohol, drugs, etc...), and enjoy life to the fullest because we have no idea what the fuck's going to happen when life ends.
While Satanist do believe in living an indulgent lifestyle, they're not the bloodthirsty, animal sacrificing, school shooting weirdos that you see on tv. They're normal people who actually have standards and most of them wouldn't hurt a fly. There is actually a set of "laws" that satanists are supposed to live by...

Fact and reality is he founded a religion, was an immensely popular author and a talented musician so Anton Lavey accomplished a great deal in his life, more than you ever will.
And he ain't my idol, I disagree with a lot of his beliefs but agree with others. He's just a person I find interesting, certainly more interesting than anyone the Church has had since Honorious of Thebes or more notably, Jesus.

REALITY: ASL's grandmother was not Transylvanian nor of Gypsy stock. She was a Ukrainian named Cecile Luba Primokov-Coulton ("Coulton" was Anglicized from "Koltonoff"). Despite his frequent claims, ASL had no Gypsy ancestry."
2. LEGEND: ASL was exposed to the savagery of human nature during his stint as a San Francisco Police photographer in the early 1950s.
REALITY: San Francisco Police Department past employment records include no "Howard Levey" nor "Anton LaVey". Frank Moser, who was a SFPD photographer in the early 1950s, said that ASL never worked for the Department.

3. LEGEND: On the night of April 30, 1966 (the German Satanic festival of Walpurgisnacht), ASL in a "blinding flash" declared himself the High Priest of Satan, proclaimed that the Age of Satan had begun, and founded the Church of Satan as a religious institution.
REALITY: In 1966 ASL supplemented his income by presenting weekend lectures on exotic and occult topics, and by conducting "Witches' Workshops". He charged $2 a head, filling his living room with the curious and establishing a local reputation as an eccentric. Professional publicist Edward Webber suggested to ASL that he "would never make any money by lecturing on Friday nights for donations ... it would be better to form some sort of church and get a charter from the State of California ... I told Anton at the time that the press was going to flip out over all this and that we would get a lot of notoriety". In the summer of 1966, long after the fictional founding-date invented later, a newspaper article about ASL's lectures offhandedly referred to him as "priest of the Devil's church". This mixture of Webber's idea and the newspaper's characterization resulted in the creation of the Church of Satan as a business and publicity vehicle. Jack Webb, a San Francisco Police investigator who knew ASL from the "Lost Weekend" nightclub, also suggested that he should form a church of some kind to exploit his recondite knowledge.

There he met a young stripper named Marilyn Monroe, with whom he had a passionate love affair in the period before her rise to film stardom. According to ASL, Monroe had resorted to stripping to pay her rent. As proof of his relationship with Monroe, ASL later showed visitors a copy of Monroe's famous nude calendar inscribed "Dear Tony, How many times have you seen this! Love, Marilyn".
REALITY: ASL never knew Monroe. Monroe intimate Robert Slatzer and Harry Lipton, Monroe's agent in 1948, have exposed and discredited this tale. Lipton paid Monroe's expenses, including her rent. Paul Valentine, director of the Mayan Theater, has stated that the Mayan was never a burlesque theater, and that neither Monroe nor ASL ever worked for the Mayan in any capacity. Diane LaVey, ASL's former wife, has admitted that she forged the "Monroe" inscription on the calendar. ASL's former publicist Edward Webber claims ASL admitted he never knew Monroe.
5.LEGEND: The 15-year-old ASL played second oboe with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, making him the youngest musician ever to play with that prestigious institution.
REALITY: There was no "San Francisco Ballet Orchestra" in 1945. The San Francisco Ballet was accompanied by a local orchestra, whose records show that none of its three oboists was named "Levey" or "LaVey".

This is all a distortion of spiritual teachings. Christianity as an institution has also acted based on distortions of basic teachings but Satanism only exists as a philosophical (not really spiritual) F You to the church. In doing so Satanism isn't suddenly the authority on the matter, their own teachings have a bunch of misinterpretations. I'm just going to jump around here.
1. LaVey called this long-term hedonism, the ability to indulge intelligently without guilt or shame. That's a very good thing but what are most people in practice going to do? Binge on 'bad' things, which is another way of saying they're unbalanced.
So while it appears that Satanism is the superior choice in the dichotomy as presented, the core of the teaching is actually the middle, neutral path - in other words, indulge if you so desire, but do it smart. And that is different from abstinence, how?
4. This is a basic philosophical problem when it comes to benevolence and charity in one's life. It's possible to be compassionate and loving of somebody, without "wasting time" in LaVey's words. As he says elsewhere it's, Do unto others as they do unto you.
There's nothing wrong with that, but the intention of spiritual teaching isn't weakness, only vulnerability. Anybody can become strong of mind and able to set boundaries, etc. but to be able to hold a state of universal compassion in mind for extended periods of time, aka buddha/christ consciousness, is not available with LaVey's exaggerated teaching which emphasizes only one side of the duality.
Again, the Satanist perspective is useful in dealing with the 'lower' aspects of human nature, as it is in essence an atheistic materialistic libertarian philosophy. So the point of view is great from a motivation perspective, if you have a weaker personality, because it can teach you not to be ashamed of your sexuality, or saying no, or standing up for yourself - though this is all information you can get from much 'softer' sources without all the red & black decoration.
