The Russian Banger Pavlovich prototype is nothing new

Really was pretty even I'd say, Sergei had the edge technically but Aleks speed was causing him problems, Sergei tapping his chin was not an issue in that fight either, Aleks did not catch him doing it he caught him a second or two afterwards when Sergei had reset.

Post Pride really Aleks went off the rails quite fast, maybe due to not being able to fight in the US(for Hep or criminal record or whatever it was) or just because he started drinking again, went progressively downhill whilst picking up easy wins for a few years then started to lose.

Ironically Aleks today actually looks in pretty decent shape physically, technically he's dropped off(grappling seems almost non existent now) but not training much during his mid career probably kept him in better shape than Sergei or Fedor.

Better shape = less mileage you mean right?

He wasn't quite reset if he did 0 effort to avoid that punch, like when yan switched stances VS omalley, he was reset but not ready and he ate a huge punch.

As far as speed goes i don't remember sergei struggling that much as he was comfortable winning most exchanges both on feet and grappling. I should maybe watch again its been over 15 years lol

Sergei is very tough and moved forward like a tank and landed shots of his own but the speed of Aleks def gave him some problems. Aleks is light on his feet and throws fast, hard punches with no wind up. Its hard to make reads on him.

I would hope he is. He was in a pretty bad way leading in to the Dansik fight. And lost pretty handily. Datsik isn't a guy you'd lose to if you were in shape. To any degree. I would hope, like I said, he is on better footing now.

Aleks is an invalid now and shouldn't have been sanctioned to fight Datsik who isn't great but is still very powerful and spars Olympic level boxers daily.

Yeah pretty much, he looks a bit less broken down physicall even if skill wise he's way below his previous level.

Sergei tapped his chin but again I don't think that held him back from doing something about Aleks next punch, what held him back was that he was hurt plus of course the punch was very quick and well thrown.

Before that I think it was a good competitive fight, Sergei looked like the better technical boxer but Aleks speed meant he was landing quite a bit on him, Sergei of course also very nearly finished Aleks with a nice counter, knocked him down and hand him mounted but couldnt quite land the GnP.

You could argue I think Sergei probably should have dropped back to guard when Aleks rocked him or at least tried to clinch up, that rather than the chin tap was I think the mistake.

I have always said thats one of the great underrated HW fights in MMA history.

There were more submissions in PRIDE HW because MMA was still in its infancy then (or toddlership). A LOT of HWs who got in the PRIDE ring didn't even know how to defend submissions. And, a lot of the grapplers couldn't strike their way out of a wet paper bag. All of those one-dimensional PRIDE HWs would get obliterated in today's UFC HW division. Any of the Top UFC HWs would be like, "Oh, you are going for a toe hold?! That's cute! Now, good night! [WHAM!]". Still, your premise that Aleks Emelianenko would do better in today's UFC is not complete rubbish. He was sloppy, but had power and reach, so he would probably clip some guys. But, still he had poor striking defense - and that was just the stand-and-bang era where guys (like Wanderlei just through in the pocket and hoped to KO their opponent before getting slept) - so he looked better in PRIDE. He couldn't come into the UFC and get away with that style or he'd get flatlined (like Wandelei, Cro Cop, etc.).
