Stallone has Rocky and Rambo, Arnold has Terminator and Predator, The Rock has..... nothing?

He is the biggest action star right now and the only guy that could realistically compete with the previous action stars of the 80s and 90s. He is lacking that 'iconic' movie/role/character though. I can't even remember the name of any character he plays in a movie. It is just "the rock in X"

Just saw that he is now starring in a movie called Rampage based on a really shit game I used to play on the Sega Master System 2. Talk about wasted opportunity.

So why don't we pool together some ideas on what The Rock can do for an iconic role. Either a movie/role he could star in, or an idea for a film.

Some ideas to get the ball rolling.

- Get the fuckers who made The Raid and The Raid 2 to make a hollywood action movie starring the Rock.

- Continue the Hercules film that The Rock did and turn it into a badass trilogy. The first movie wasn't amazing, but they could build on it and make rock 'THE hercules" instead of Kevin Sorbo.

Make an actually good remake of Conan the Barbarian.

He just doesn't have that X factor that Stallone and Arnold have. There's a softness to him even when he acts tough. You'll find him in a lot of tough/funny roles. It's too diluted. Even when he's huge, he still looks soft

I can see how this will split the WR in half.

There is some truth here. His most memorable role, was as that gay tough guy in Get Shorty.

Of course he has a HBO show, which I think is above movie credits these days. Not action though I guess.

The Rock injected steroids into Trent Gowdy's (aka Methew McConaughey's) forehead.

Ive never watched a movie The Rock was in.

I only know him as Rocky Maivia. And i refuse to know him any other way.

bah, wrong forum. needs a move to the berry.

He definitely has a bit of that 'Ryan Reynolds' thing going on where he is meant to be a strong ripped lead but is a bit soft/jokey. Reynolds found his place with Deadpool and Van Wilder and just fully embraced it, but maybe Rock can harden the fuck up and make it work? I think he is definitely charismatic enough and he can still be a domineering physical force. Just needs a role that leaves the comedy at the door and is setup to make him shine.

Closest thing he had was Hercules but they still turned that into a "big funny guy" film.

They just dont seem to make classic action flicks like the ones mentioned in the op anymore. Everything is over the top cgi nowadays

Hercules was close a breakout film for him but the premise of the movie itself undercuts his 'toughness': That Hercules is team-effort (like Obama saying: nobody makes it alone, it's a liberal thing with a feminine vibe). That all of his 'labors' were combinations of teamwork and illusions. It's almost a parody to Arnold films like Commando.

They could always do a remake of The Rock with The Rock in it.

The Rundown is a classic that is replayed on basic cable all the time along with Walking Tall.

Faster is his "oh shit this guy can act in movies the Academy might respect" moment

Legit surprised he didn't plant his seed in Daddario.

Can you remember the name of the character he played in the rundown or walking tall? I can't.

I'm thinking more along the lines of an iconic main lead character like rocky, dutch, rambo, conan, etc.

If someone says Hercules, I still think of Kevin Sorbo, not The Rock. He doesn't have an iconic character/movie that he will be remembered by.
