THE RING VS. THE GRUDGE Announcement Trailer Released

Back in April a fan-made mash-up of the Ju-On/Grudge and Ring franchises went viral online. It may have been intended as just a joke, but development wheels turn quickly in Japan, and respective studios Kadokawa and NBC Universal Japan leapt on the opportunity to get Sadako Vs. Kayako in motion. And to prove it's realy real, here's the first teaser trailer.

Sadako and Kayako are, of course, the chalk-faced revenants that haunt the Grudge and Ring films. Sadako (from Ring) was murdered and thrown down a well, only to start killing people via haunted videotapes thirty years later. Kayako (from Ju-On/Grudge) was also murdered at a young age and remains angry abaout it, but her modus operandi is to crawl around ceilings and rattle at people.

Kōji Shiraishi is the director, with Mizuki Yamamoto (Ghost Hunt) playing our heroine Yūri, caught between two ghouls. Sadako Vs. Kayako is out in Japan in June next year.

What a weird VS movie. I understood Freddy vs Jason because they can actually fight hand-to-hand, but these two ghosts kinda just look at you and you're dead. How exactly are they going to fight each other?

I'm always down for a versus movie. Perhaps this one will actually end with something other than a tie.


I don't know a lot about either franchse though. I've only seen the US versions of each once. Are the main ghosts of each meant to be the same? Or similar type ghosts?

Japan should make a dark comedy show about a guy/girl/group of friends that constantly get attacked by various Japanese spirits. I would watch the shit out of that. The specific rules they have for surviving an encounter with some of their spirits is mind boggling.

I'll make sure to catch this movie when it comes out.

Can't wait to see this one. I thought the fan-made teaser from last year was a real one so I've been excited since then lol.

On that note, can anyone recommend any good Asian horror flicks from recent years? I feel like their quality has gone down since the peak in early 2000's. I can myself recommend a Chinese horror from a few years back called The Second Coming. A really awesome little ghost movie.
