The Photography thread!

A couple more from my film archives. First one is B&W film, the second is Velvia 50 slide film.

Beautiful!

I will comment the second one.

It is rich, it is so rich in color saturation. No matter how advanced and using the very best lenses, digital cannot achieve the realistic feeling that analog film does. Analog is natural, with natural grains and the occasional missed water residue and dust particle.

Your bike picture is like a long-cooked Bolognese. The more cooking time, the more juiciness. Digital is too simple and a quick glance that then falls into oblivion. Just like cooking and eating powdered meat sauce in 5 minutes. Perfect sharpness in a digital picture is like shaving my eyes with the world's smallest cheese grater.

Bravo to you and long live Analog!

From someone who stopped shooting with medium format many years ago.

Hey, someone could at least allow me to make threads here, in the off topic section... I'm not allowed to make threads anywhere but I think at least the mods can agree my threads weren't harmful or promoting hatred or anything... Can't I at least be allowed to make threads here, non-mma related? Please...

I just purchased a used Canon EF 70-200 2.8 IS II. Got a sweet deal on it and even though Canon is no longer servicing it I pulled the trigger. I haven't been seriously into photography for almost a decade, but it should be a fun lens to use again. I owned one for about a year a long time ago, but ended up selling it for a profit. Plan to bring this tank to Europe next week to take some family photos and then use it for my kids sports. Still have an old 5Dmk3, but after reading how much better the Canon mirrorless bodies are I'm tempted to buy a R6mk2 and start off with an adapter for my existing EF lenses. It's been a long time I even thought about camera gear, but it's giving me that itch again. Maybe just maybe I'll start freelancing again to support this hobby if my passion for it reawakens :o

Awesome man. Should do it. Even for fun it's a great hobby/past time.
Been using it as an extra excuse to bike more lately too.
I got back into it after it being on the back burner for 9 years cause of life.
Been doing it almost a year again now and started drawing and painting after like 30 years.
I'm using a Canon 7d. Almost 18 years old and it's still going. Still using my 100mm macro and even though it's almost done it's still somehow working after 20 years.

That's awesome! I'm getting pretty excited about it. I've been looking at the UPS tracking daily and it's getting really close lol. I'm hoping it comes early so I can test it out. My real passion is street photography though. My Fuji X70 has been my go to for that and it does the job for my needs. Anyway we'll see what happens. I may pick up a Canon 1.4x III extender to get more reach. Getting up to 280mm will cover soccer fields better. I saw that the RF line has a 100-300 2.8 lens which is pretty insane. But it's like $10k lol. That would be a perfect sports lens

Should get some ext. tubes too. Can sometimes find them cheap and can be a decent sub for doing macro stuff.
I love doing street photography, but I'm from a small town so I don't get to cities often. Why when I was in Toronto last year on my own I spent 8 plus hours walking around and took over 600 shots.

Since I'm in a small town by Windsor I do more nature stuff like I did today.

That's cool. I was never interested in macro stuff. I use to love doing landscape/cityscapes, but loss interest after a few years. It started to feel more like a chase then photography. Chasing locations. Chasing sunsets, sunrises and chasing beautiful light. I remember going to a keyhole arch in Big Sur. It was the time of year when the sunset create a beautiful light through the keyhole. I remember standing there and there had to be at least 100 tripods set up taking the exact same shot. After that I was like this is boring as shit lol

I don't chase. I just go and see where things take me. Sometimes it leads to an adventure, or almost meeting certain death. All fun either way if ya let it be.

I've been wanting to go that arch for a while now, but even the drive from the Bay Area is a pain in the ass, let alone setting up and waiting for that perfect photo opportunity. Anyway, some amazing photos in this thread, you guys are really talented. Anyone got their hands on the new Z5ii yet?

How do you guys upload photos on here?

I keep trying from my drive and keep getting a "File is too large" error...

It's worth to see and since you'll be there you might as well photograph it. I've only recently got slightly interest.in photography again so all my gear is older. I don't even know what a Z5ii is lol. I assume Nikon mirrorless and equivalent to a Canon R5ii

Best way is to upload to a site like Imgur and insert URL

I usually edit mine down in size before hand.
Most of the time 1200 x 800 or 1100x 733
Hope that helps.

I upload to imagur since it supposedly strips out your metadata and then past in here--you can also use it to resize your images if you want to make them smaller--but they changed the interface and now I find it somewhat of a pain in the arse to use. YMMV.

Speaking of which, this reminded me to finally upload a few of mine for this thread.

I really fucking hate what they did to their interface. It worked too well, I guess.

Yeah, the Z5ii is a Nikon full frame mirrorless camera priced at entry level (under $2k) and has their best processor (the Exceed 7) which is found in their powerhouses like the Z8 and Z9. I want to get into mirrorless, so I'm thinking of getting one of those. It just came out this April. The Z5ii is 24mp, while I think the Canon is 45mp? So the Z8 would probably be a better comparison to the R5ii.

So probably equivalent to the R6ii. I want one, but would rather use that money on another lens. If I do go all out with taking photos of my kids soccer games I wouldn't mind an older Canon EF 300 f2.8 IS or Sigma 120-300 2.8 Sport for more versatility. Both go for about $1500 give or take. I found a EF 400 2.8 selling for $2100. The paint is all beat up, but the optics/mechanics is still good per the seller. That lens is beautiful to use for outdoor sports. The IQ and DOF at 2.8 is amazing on that lens.
