The Photography thread!

Does depend a lot on the film your using as well, B&W negative film is pretty forgiving in terms of under/over exposure but slide film far less so.
My slide projector broke last year.

I’ve looked into the scanners to turn them dig and the good ones are hella high or the good old ones have to run on old operating systems etc.

There are a bunch of people these days making rigs to take photos of slides with dig cameras to “digitize” them, but man if you have a 1000+ slides that’s a grueling process.

I bet you can get killer shots from that far North. Lots of solitary places, and clean air too if you keep clear of big factories.
The air out in the mountains past Bogochauny was the cleanest I’ve ever encountered it is one of the things that stands out the most in my memories of the place.

It was “cleaner” to me than it seemed in the artic circle for sure.

Couple photos from my first digital camera, way back in the day.

What am I looking at here?

We had a slot for negatives on our HP scanner when I still lived with my parents 8 years ago, but I have no idea if it works with Windows 8 and up.
It worked like shit on XP (due to HP's shit software, hardware was good)

Dog photo slays me, so cute.

Photo four is well shot
Thanks. It helped that the dog was friendly and cooperative.
It was week one of me owning my D850 (read it as "a camera without automatic mode").

I have some decent ones From Krasnoyarsk and bogachoeny(I always fuck the spelling up on that one) novy Urengoy and the arctic circle up there. .

I wondered why Sherdog was the only search result I got for that.

I am tempted to do a trip to Siberia at some point, visit Lake Baikal and maybe the Lena Pillars.

Scanner wise I use a Reflecta Crystalscan 7200, pretty good results for a non pro scanner costing £250 but no automated system so it would take along time to scan tones of slides.

Baikal is unique, you should visit before our government sells it to the chinese for good.

Powerful camera! The af system is great

Autofocus systems in today’s cameras are amazing.

But they have been for a long time, I think it’s funny so many people focus on the AF systems of today’s cameras, that never shoot in a way that they are necessary for the shots they are taking.

Anyway, rambling for no reason I just always think of that when today’s autofocus systems come up, as truely AF has been “more than good enough” for 99% of shooters for over a decade.

And most people never truely take the time to learn how to properly use their AF system, to get the best out of each shot type anyway.

Or they are using cameras , with badass AF systems, with relatively slow focusing lenses anyway lol.

I find that relative to most reviews AF performance goes in two directions for me. Either your talking landscape shots such as I'v posted here or portraits that are pretty easy to pull off with manual focus most of the time or you have more challenging situations with fast randomly moving subjects.

I do feel like a lot of reviews create situations for AF testing that are deliberately undemanding, shooting sports for example in situations were subjects aren't moving fast/unpredictably in the frame when really that's not what most actual use is going to be like. Those two camera store guys who work for digital photography review now especially tended to be guilty of doing this.

Autofocus systems when used with a fast lens have had no issue keeping up in sports relatively for a long time now.

When used properly of course.

Fast moving animals, bird and some insects are where it gets challenging using older tech really, imo anyway.

And yeah. Lol at reviews talking about amazing AF, when the shots wouldn’t have been a problem with an MF camera or lens mounted

You clearly haven't used a Panasonic camera right :D

Yes a lot don’t understand cameras and the capabilities.

I often shoot dogs and go birding with the old man when time permits, that’s when you notice how good your AF truly is.

I think I’ve mentioned before BIF has always been a preferred shooting style of mine, I like the challenge and have been doing it since the manual focus film camera days.

It was a real damn challenge then.

Technique plays such a huge part too, I shoot very little now and I’m sure I’d struggle for a bit doing BIF on fast water birds right now.

Love shooting my dogs too a fast dog can be a challenge as well

Haha, yes very challenging and that’s part of the fun, shooting dogs is a different challenge but the results are always the same: a big proud goofy smile.

I couldn’t imagine doing either with a manual focus film cam, you must have some immense patience

They didn’t have anything else when I Started, and my dad was infatuated with wining some Aduboun Society Photography contest for birds in flight and everyday after work and on weekends we’d go to the local park lake and shoot rolls of film.
