The official "suport the fat Swede thread"

Oh and by the way. It is an open tournament, and possibly (if I do good..) I will have to fight several fights in one day. Anybody that got some experience with this kind of tournaments?

-What kind of clothing do you have to wear/get away with wearing at these things (I'm thinking gi's etc)
-If you get thrown, what happens-I assume you can't hit them when they're down, but do you get major points if you pull off a throw, or do they allow you to be thrown so many times before you loose the match (like being driven off so many times)
-Can you check with shins (ala MT)
-Weight classes (will -85kg division put you at the upper or lower end of the class)

How hard are the stand up session you do? I've see a wide variation in what people call hard sessions.
What kinda stuff do you do in what time frame

I would say before you reply though that you could probably pull 2 days where you do a sprint session in the morning and do a skill session in the evening, but if the stand ups are hard then it might take you a while to adapt to that. You don't want to be dead for a skill session after all.
I think without knees and elbows to worry about, body shots will be your friend (and you can let go full power without worrying about knocking out someone). You'd be surprised what effect body shots can make by the 2nd or 3rd round, and how poorly people defend them, especially people with a KB back ground. If in doubt, you could drive people off the (mat did you say) because they don't want to take anymore/can't reply and get flustered abd just back off.
Thigh kicks also go in the same catagory as body punches, but double or triple them up, the first one might miss or be checked, but the rest wont.

edit-your post above reminded me

Do you know how many you might have on the day? 3 would be a average number I guess, but it depends on how many in your catagory though.
If the weigh in is within 2 hours of the first match you can't even starve till after the weigh in and gorge....you'll have to take some brown rice and turkey, nuts and potatoes and/or pasta for after the weigh in and sip on fruit drinks with maybe porage and some light meats for in between the events.

I suggest you learn to defend low kicks, cause the damage will mount up on you

Im not sure about the gi, wouldnt like to wear it myself and from looking at pics from old events no one seem to wear it.
A throw or sweep where you keep standing gives 2 points, if you follow them down it is one point.
Punches give one point and so do leg kicks, while kicks to the body and head give 2 points.
Yep you can check with the shin, apart from the knees and elbows it seem that most goes, and even though its sanshou they are marketing it as "every stile may compete..."
It is 5kg increments in the weightclasses, so the one bellow is -80kg, if I cut to come down to -85 I should land as one of the heavier guys. But to be fair im guessing I will need to get down to between 70 and 80kg to have my body composition in check. (not an issue though for this one..)

A hard session is warmup with conditioning, then one hour of rolling with or without punches on the ground, then one hour of padwork and sparring. I will need to increase the intensity in the standup department. I feel fairly confident in my hands but I suck at this kicking bussiness, I am fairly poor at checking them legkicks and my shins arent properly conditioned yet. Conditioning, leg checking and shin-conditioning definitively feel as top priorities.

From what I have heard it seems like you may go from 3-5 fights as an average in my weightclass.

Writing this I sit with shins that hurst like a mother -beep-, It will be interesting to see what I have goten myself in to.. This will be an great learning experience..
Thanks for the feedback, greatly apreciated!:)

I will put my hopes that my good looks will scare those little kungfu dudes from kicking me to hard..;)

You look like some guy from the show Lost, good luck!

Sanshou in Sweden is generally 2x2min rounds (with stoppage time) and then a third round IF the judges rule the rounds as 1-1.

Good luck! I was actually down there coaching 2 years ago. Btw, A or B "klass"? Im guessing B since its your first fight, and if its B then just relax and punch/kick a lot, Im guessing throws will come naturally if you are a grappler.

No you dont have to worry about your shins, youll br using fat shinguards.
And I doubt youll have to go more then 2 fights.
Just pm me for questions.

Good luck man, I'm going to compete under 160 next month so I sympathise with the weight cutting (I'd happily kill for a pizza).

I lost.. I write about it after a few beers and some sleep..;)

back to the drawing board then. losing is a big wakeup call, u realize where u went wrong fairly easily

Yeah man your right, its good freaking experience!

It freaking nearly killed me to make weight.. The last week I didnt eat or drink much at all, 2 days before I only ate a slice of bread and drank 3 cups of tea, the last day I didnt eat anything and barely siped on some tea... At the evening it was subwrestling training, my plan was to check my weight to see I was below and then just ask as a coach during training, go home sleep and early next day weigh in, piece of cake...

Only problem was that I wasnt under, I was 0.4kg over, at that point I felt "ok lets go no hold bared on this weighloss shit".. So I joined in on 2 hours of tough sw practise, without drinking anything and on an empty stomach, I was pretty slugish but I choked people out on pure frustration.. Back home I realy felt like shit, dehydration really started to kick in.. I went to bed early and thougth that I was going to sleep away the time until the morning, but I was to thirsty.
I spinned around in my bed all night, thinking of geting to take a mouthfull of water... It was no fun..

We drove to the competition early, my hopes was to get to weighin as soon as possible... But it was delayed so I had to wait a few hours. Eventually I got to weighin, I was down at 83kg which almost pissed me of, I could easily have eaten a little and goten some water and slept the night before, but I do think that the scale was of with a kg..

Anyhow my plan to dehydrate and fill up afterwards didnt go perfect. I felt like shit and didnt have any aphetite, I drank some coke and took a little proteinshake and some youghurt...

Then the competition started of and it got pretty hectic, was a lot of running around trying to figure out when and against who I would compete. I then did an half assed warmup and really felt like it just got me tired... Went up to the competition platform and saw my oponent. It was an danish kungfu dude, imediately I saw that he was a solid 85kg guy with a real big reach advantage on my chubby dwarf ass.

When the match started it kind of started to get fucked up, I dont have the worlds most solid kickboxing background, im primarily a boxer who spared muay thai guys, never met these kungfu dudes. And this guy started going genki sudo on me with a game based on fast freaking spining back kicks on me. A few of those in my stomach really fucked my plan on geting in close up. I really got slaugthered in the first round. First the dude caught me with a fast ass kick in my head that I didnt see, it put me on my back, it was extremely humiliating being on my ass and looking up at some doctor or something, he asked me if I was ok and i mumbled that I was fine, I got up on extremely shaky legs. The fight continued and I stumbled forward against this dude. Then the next lowpoint comes. He caught me with a spining back kick to my ribs David Loiseau style, with completely stunned me. It was blinding painfull and my ribs still hurt from it. I stumbled of the math which gave him 2 points and me a chanse to get my composure back. In that second I seriously considered giving up for a few seconds. Then I felt like skullfucking myself for such pussyness and stumbled back on the math.
After some more stalking the round was over.
The only thing positive was that i was just inches away from geting him out of the math 2 times, if I would have goten him out both times I would have won the round regardless the slaughter.

The second round was more even, I felt like I started to figure him out slightly, I got him with a few lowkicks and it was a bit back and forth, much less dramatic round though..
He won the round and then the match was over, I was confused since it is best of 3 rounds, then I got to know if anyone wins the first two rounds the match is over....
Kind of sucked since it felt that I just started to get into the match, would have been interesting to go a third round.

...Enough rambling. It was a really fun experience, really the first competition ever that I have competed in of any kind. It thought me a million things about weigh management, cuting etc that I know I will do different to next time.

It was a really charming little competion, a completely mad mix of mma dudes in grapling shorts and rashguards, thai boxers, ax kicks, dudes that did strange kungfu forms to warm up, madness..;)

Next competition for me will be submission wrestling to the summer, and then I plan on geting back at these kungfu dudes in the fall (next edition of this competition). I will be in an 10 or 15kg lighter weightclass though and have a completely different preparation.

It really feel like it lit a fire up my ass, now after a few days of decadense I will start up some hard ass training.

Sorry for boring you dudes, it was nice to write of the experience. And if anybody wants to see the fat dwarf get slaughtered give me a few pointers about how you host vids online and I throw it up.

Good work, man. Props to you for getting in there and giving all you had. I'm sure you learned plenty and are a more complete fighter/person because of it.

Good job man! The bets part about losing is that you learn a lot about what you need to improve. Keep at it!

Takes a lot of guts to get up there and fight, Inearly lost my lunch in the run up to my fight, trying to do it dehydrated and with no sleep must have sucked. It's only really a loss if you don't learn from it and make the same mistakes again. Sounds like you're not used to working against guys who like to use flashy kicks so that's definetly something to train for, keep training and look to your next fight.

I did point out the thing about only 2 rounds if the same guy wins both rounds.

My advice is, dont fucking cut weight like that! Competing is supposed to be fun, leave the insane cutting to the pros. Ill bet anything youd have done a lot better at -90kg!

That is whery true. But I promised myself that I would make -85, and I didnt have to much time to make that weight so it got a bit crazy. But I learnt a lot from that experience and now I have all the time in the world to work down towards a weightclass more suited to my reach.

by the way Krelik i've been told to cut water weight u drink a lot of water days before and the day of ur compettion u dont so u piss all the water out and run to sweat out the remainder

Yeah I read "the grapplers guide to sports nutrition" like over and over in the begining... A great book that I ended up taking absolutely nothing practical from!;) In that book it said that you should increase water and sodium 5 days before and drink enourmous amounts, and then like 2 days before you should start to cut down on the water.

But it is harder to do shit than read them I noticed. Especially when you have zero experience with cutting and you know that time is ticking against you. I -abso-fucking-lutely overcut bigtime. I was starting to feel dehydrated like 2 days before the competiton, and I could propably have made the weight on that scale like 24 hour before I actually did it. But as I said I took lots of experience from this so its all good. Im just a little pissed right now since I got an cracked rib from it which is keeping me from the Rocky style training I had planed for my self for the next few months... lol
