Hey guys. I supose this should go into the standup or diet forum. But I will post it her since this happen to be the forum I most prefer to visit.

My mma training buddy just convinced med to sign up in swedish open in Sanshou that happens just around the corner where I live. Its februari the 25th and I came to the conclusion that I need to enter atleast as low as the -85kg division. Im around 95 fat kg at the moment so there will obviously have to be some serious work for me to get down there. The last weighins are 2 hours before the first matches start so I cant rely to much on the sauna either.

Anyhow it will be my first competition in my life of any sort. I am at the moment mostly focusing on my grappling and the original thought was to compete in some grappling to the summer, but what the heck what do I have to loose.. (besides health and dignity..)

So it would be nice to have some support from you strength and power folks. And yeah diet tips and stuff would be nice to..

Sorry Urban if this is wasteland since it is in the wrong forum, but I plan to bag this for sherdog S-P...;)

I don't have any gems of fight preparation to share, but I'm really excited for you. I'd love to see a fellow S&Per kick some ass. Keep us posted on the fight preparation, please.

Answer this question:

True or False, all Finns are alchoholics? I've you're truly a fat Swede, you will know the correct answer.

Thanks folks..:) This is a pic taken during a grappling session in the "dungeon", it should be fairly close to how I look right now:

Im 170cm tall at around 95kg, I will try and get an official weight tomorow at a good scale.

Official strategy is first and foremost to look through my diet carefully. Im guessing coca cola have kept me fat regardless of all the grapling and boxing I have done the last year. Geting my diet in check should help. I will try and get 5-6 sessions of grappling/striking a week with and try and focus it in on the striking part. And I will try and start the day with intervalls, weights and some medium distance running to try and get my slow metabolism up... Since im a student and do a lot of work from home I will take my dogs for more long walks and stuff during the day...
Thats my strategy right now, kind of preliminary yet, lets see what stuff I can come up with after a good nights sleep. I will keep you guys posted of my progress. (or lack of..;) )

No. But they like their knife fights. And dont get them started on their "sisu". It is the danish that are the alcoholics. The norwegians are the seal-klubbing strange hat wearing fools, and the icelanders.. ehrm lets just say that they are "special"..

Do it up, tubby. Entering some kind of competition as least a couple times during your life will be good for you. Might as well get the first one out of the way. Who knows what wonders you may learn.

Yeah man, the question is if I will remember it after I get some freaky kungfu kick to my face..;)

I will put my hopes that my good looks will scare those little kungfu dudes from kicking me to hard..;)

pro-tip: 3 days before the fight, drink 2 gallons of water, the next day 1 gallon, the next day none. your body will continue to piss mightily, as if you were still drinking a ton of water. really easy way to cut some weight.

krellik, if you want i could send you an reputable e-book* that has a bunch of good cutting tips in it.

*not naming it, because i stole it. HA!

I don't know anything about losing weight because I'm one of those naturally skinny bastards, but I do support the fat Swede!

Kick some ass!

well, dont know much about losing weight, my problem is gaining it so...but you have my support...just remember....since your from sweden...before you charge into battle, you have to cry "ooooodiiiiin!"...

A real Swede would have claimed all Finns are drunk, just like a real Finn thinks all the Swedes are fruitcakes. NO SOUP FOR YOU!

Kick ass my Swedish Brother, well second generation Swede here. Anyway, make me proud dang it.

San shou is standup fighting with throws, right? If so stop the grapling and do only stand up kick/thaiboxing 4-5 times a week. Join up with a good trainer/gym. Run 2-3 times a week. And eat less.

This will make your cardio go up and your fatlevel go down.

Alcohol is very expensive in scandinavia.
Anyway. I support the fat swedish!

Can you post some facts about your strength (core work) and conditioning (running times for distance, number of sprint reps with ... rest aswell if you can). Maybe anything about your grappling. Do you do subs grapping, american type wrestling etc.

I'm not overly sure about sanshou to be honest, so some rules and guide lines would be good aswell (I think they have 3 min rounds don't they....so you might have what, 3*2 min rounds total as work your way the tournament levels).

I'm fighting about the same time as you are in a MT fight and need to loose a little weight aswell, so I can always point you in the direction that I've gone if interested, but more info would be needed first.

Thanks for the support folks:)

Sanshou is kickboxing with lowkicks (but no elbows and knees) and throws. The rounds are 3 * 2 minute rounds with one minute rest. There also are some freaky rule that if you go out outside the mat 2 times in a round you lose the match. It is fullcontact but in sweden it is forbiden to ko your oponent. Tko is ok just as long as you dont send you oponent into unconsiousness (swedish politics, dont get me started..).

I have been doing boxing and submission grappling around 5-6 sessions a week for the last year (about even split), but for the last two months it has almost only been submission grappling since we are starting up an proper sub-grappling club in my little town. Since I am one of the persons behind the club I cant just focus on just kickboxing since I basicly have to help the club get some momentum.

When it comes to stand up my kicking is fairly limited and my boxing are more descent. My strategy will have to be to come into punching range and stay there as much as possible, as I also am a grappler I wont mind working for some throws and sweeps.

Strategies for training will be to get in as much sparing as my training partner that also will be competing (and who got me to compete..) He is a tall and solid 110kg beef and he kicks as a mule. Hopefully a high dose of sparing with him will get me to be able to better handle the kicks. As our sub-wrestling club is training together with the local greco wrestling team I will try and get some wrestling in with them to get my throws better. I will aim for 6 sessions a week up until the competition with as much focus on the striking as possible.

For the last year my separate conditioning and strength work has been iregular at best, I was planing on geting serious on that anyhow this year so might just as well get started. My preliminary plan had been to put one intervall running session and 2 strength workouts to compliment my MA training. But now I am feeling I need to be more serious than that with the intervall running and condtioning up to the competition. I can live loosing cause im a crappy kickboxer, but I dont want to loose since I got no gas.

I have to find me a good scale so I can see how much work there are to be done...

Carnal, tell your finish friend that Finland always will be a swedish colony even if they do not know it themselves, therefore they do not deserve to much of our atention..

Se what he thinks of that..?;)

krellik - Good luck with your fight.

The thing that worked best for me on weight loss (when I had the desire/discipline) was a term that is well hated in here. 20 minutes of hard training first thing in the morning. I mean, wake up drink a glass of water and do hard cardio. If you have a big open field next to your house (I do, so everyone must) then do 20 minutes of wind sprints (or snow sprints depending where in Sweden). Or 20 minutes on a treadmill progressing to high speed in spikes every 5 minutes. The thought was called an acronym I won't mention in here, but comes from the founders of EAS. They do it for their weight loss programs, and certainly 10kg is possible in 40 days. Also, believe the people who say to split your meals out, take what you currently eat and split it into five meals a day and weight will come off if by magic. And eat a breakfast, no skipping that one.

Again, good luck. The idea I lsited above was from personal experience in losing weight (before I fucked my knees up and gained it all back --- DOH!).
