Rewatched it recently, and apparently was a director's cut or extended version.

Richard Jenkins's role was a lot bigger.....he was a recovering alcoholic who after about a week with Matt Dillon ended up relapsing and getting eaten by a snake.

Edit: My bad, was mixing him up with Jeffrey Tambor.

Tambor, even outside of the director’s cut (which I was not aware of!) has very funny moments despite the limited screen time.

I love his (literally) phoned in acting job when Dillon is trying to sell his regret over having lied to Mary.

“Does she still think you’re an architect??” Said with very stilted delivery.

And then when he goes off script when the dog grabs his pages.

Hilarious.

Not to mention Dillon feigning being on the verge of tears “I lied to that girl. Lied, man!”

“You said it, mister!!”

This was the most hysterical I've laughed at cinema in years

@Nathan LaMontagne didn't follow up but I'm guessing he said "wow" about knowing Leslie IRL, did you really?
I did. He was a patient of mine. and we used to sit and chat a lot when he'd come in (99.9% professional but he was always funny)
Not friends or anything, but I'd like to think he'd take a bullet for me.
I used to quote his movies all the time and a staff member asked where those quotes were from. When i told her she was like, he's one of our patients.
I never let on that I was a super fan, but one time I asked if he had anything new coming out and he said: deadpan: "Yes, Scary Movie 3: (classic Nielsen pause) its going to be terrible" (I think it was SM3; one of those).
Nice man. Naturally funny.

I think i will take this chair got me good too.

I also loved the other chair line when he was talking about Teslas

"I remember a time when the only things that were electric were eels and chairs"

<lmao> <lmao> <lmao> <lmao>

Curious to see how other theaters reacted to the montage scene. I've seen online where some didnt like it and how it hit for others.

The whole swerve of the movie going comedy to love story to horror movie hit big in my theater, there was a lady laughing and crying when the snowman was excluded from the action.
