The Moment When The Ref Saved Usman From Maia

It wasn't that bad lol Maia wasn't progressing the position at all, Usman was never close to any submission risk. That's practically the equivalent of clinching a guy against the cage for multiple minutes.

Yeah Maia was not going to get his back. there was also only a minute to go in that round so yea.

This ref should be banned! .... for letting Maya stand and do nothing for 2 minutes.
It's understandable for casuals, and the just bleed fans to have this view, but the ref should know better. This is Maia's game, and he's world class at it.

1:30 is a lot to work with for Maia, especially when they were both dry.

More like you are the casual if you really think there's a precedence for Maia to make zero progress in that position but let it go on forever, do you really think a ref would let him stay in that position (without advancing) for potentially over 4 minutes? (let's say he got it at the beginning of the next round)

Get real lmao <Lmaoo> You clearly aren't as informed as you think. All refs will treat the fighters the same regardless of their background. "This is Maia's game" isn't justification to let him stall out that position longer than the ref would let any other fighter do.

I don't have a problem with the reset here. The ref warned Maia and his reaction was to punch Usman in the ass cheek.

The ref stood up Roy Nelson while he had side control and I think he was working on a Kimura. Arlovski got really lucky in that fight.

He literally intervenes just as Maia starts punching, following his instructions. Fuckin weak.

Not a terrible call. I wouldn't have minded if they let them sit there for another minute. But it was an obvious stalemate.

They were stuck where Usman couldn't work out of the position, and Maia couldn't progress. Neither guy was really working. It's what breaks were designed for.

If Maia had both hooks in, or Usman didn't have the overhook, I think they'd have let it play out.

Maia was literally playing touch butt prior to the referee's intervention
