Media The Masterful Destruction of Rampage By Jon Jones

You’re right I forgot he looked like shit against a low level OSP because he was a big LHW as well. Just proves my point Jones is only dominant when fighting smaller guys. Once he fights guys his size he arguably loses or looks like shit.

He only lost to Reyes out of those.

He was running away and turning his back lol only won because he kicked Rampage knee back a super dirty move

Not a dirty move. It is legal and better than being kicked in the head or soccer kicked in the head.
No they aren’t. Jones was also too big for his weight class, he was a natural HW beating old middleweights while on steroids

every time Jones faced an average fighter his size like Gus and Reyes he arguably lost

His weight was 218lbs to 222lbs. He was not that large with regards to weight as a LHW. What was large was his height and wingspan

You can also count on two hands the amount of times Reyes landed cleanly on Jones. Almost everything he landed was a glancing blow, what he did looked good on the surface but in reality he could barely hit the guy clean.

Which is the case in almost every one of his fights, including against Gus.

As Jones has said in the past, he reached a point at LHW where every fight was another day at the office.

You could almost see it in the fight, the urgency and fire wasn't there. Compared to bouts where he had something to prove like DC or Gus 2.

His less than stellar fight against OSP wasn't because of his height, length or any technical proficiency he brought to the table. It was Jones.

If you look at the history of combat sports, this is a common theme. You're not going to have the same level of fire and motivation for every single fight, especially when you've been doing it for so long.

You need something to truly get up for.

I believe that's the issue with Jones more than anything. He needs a challenge, a name, something to prove in order to bring out his full potential as a fighter. When he had those elements, he shined.
Idk Reyes lit Jones up, he was tagging Jones with ease

Lol what? The guy is 6’4 with a 85inch reach and huge frame. Doesn’t matter the weight, that’s still a huge size and length advantage. Once he fought guys with similar height and reach he arguably lost or got his ass beat

I think there's just levels to analysis bro

A lot of people think like you

MMA at this level is just far more nuanced than most people are capable of.

Jon should be happy he's got a good chin

A lot of people think Jones got hit way more than he actually did against Gus and Reyes.

In general, MMA and it's fans love awarding points to air or glancing blows. People see offense and ignore the full spectrum of nuance taking place.

That will change as the sport grows and there's a greater emphasis on accounting for defense and statistical accuracy comes closer to what we see in boxing.
He was hit more than he landed himself. His legs and body were getting chopped down and was getting lit up by punches. If he fought a small LHW he wouldn’t have been touched

I don't think you understand the sport you're watching well enough then.

You can count on two hands the amount of times Reyes actually landed cleanly.

Again, most people think Reyes hit Jones more than he actually did. The same is true for the first Gus fight.

Most don't seem to realize how good his defense is and how little he actually gets hit.

It was a good fight, performance. And maybe the last time Rampage really put in a proper effort. But at the end of the day the true highpoint of the fight was the faceoff-shenanigans.

Jones 1,2,3 tho

He gets hit a lot when he faces guys with similar size which is why he arguably lost to Gus and Reyes. Without the reach advantage he can’t keep a distance and gets tagged

you'd probably watch a Mayweather fight and think he was getting lit up on the ropes as well

Yeah but weight classes are based off weight.

So even if he is so tall his weight was never an issue. Cormier is 5"10 but is the heaviest LHW we have ever seen his confirmed weigh in same day weight was 236lbs recorded in California by the CSAC. There have been many HWs weighing 228lbs, 230lbs, 232lbs, 233lbs like Jan, Overeem, Forrest griffin, Rampage, Rumble etc but never 236lbs. Cormier essentially cut the max one could do at that weight and it was brutally hard on his body and kidneys.

I do not deny that he has always struggled vs guys who are tall or have long reach. When he beat Chael, Machida, Shogun, Rampage, Vitor all those guys are legit 6 foot at best. None of them are 6"1 as the UFC claimed as they are listed and Vitor is like 5"11. Jones a legit 6"3 & 1/2 had several inches on all of them plus leverage from his reach/wingspan.
