More like he made zero effort to secure funding, unless you count taking money away from military housing. He had two years with full control of Congress. You can't blame the dems for blocking him when he could have gotten it through with republican support alone.
The reality is he didn't have a plan. Not sure how that confounds you, as trump has a very long history of making promises he won't keep.
Why not take the $20 billion this bill provides, with support of the Border Patrol, and then push through a separate bill to fund whatever wall you want? There is no rational reason to demand a wall must come first, when you have the fucking agency in charge of the border telling you that what you have in front of you now will help.
Ok. So when republicans fail to produce any such bill of their own, will you admit they played you for a fool?
You can't give any reason for republican inaction, other than a vague "the dems will stop them." You have controll of the house, and only would only need to pick up single digit votes in the Senate. If republicans were to put up a bill that somehow lost with a full on partisan deadlock, THEN you'd have a genuine excuse to wait.
But republicans won't do that. Because they have no solutions. Only false outrage.
And the independents you need to court for November, see right through you.
