"When we say nationalism, the first thing people think about, at least in America, is Hitler. He was a national socialist," Owens said in the video. "If Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well, OK, fine. The problem is he wanted, he had dreams outside of Germany. He wanted to globalize, he wanted everybody to be German, everybody to be speaking German, everybody to look a different way. To me, that’s not nationalism. So in thinking about how it could go bad down the line, I don’t really have an issue with nationalism, I really don’t."
That's her quote, basically empty statement saying if Hitler wasn't Hitler it would be ok and if he just focused on what he did in Germany it would be fine which Is false.
What Hitler did in his country was horrendous, he didn't just want to make Germany great again, his racist nationalistic views caused an us vs them divide, and he used basic nationalism as a way to prop up his agenda and shift blame. Going global wasn't just the mistake he made. Her use of the word globalism was incorrect as well, and her basic comments on this was misguided.
Regardless of those Hitler comments that wasn't even my problem with her, my problem was she shouldn't have even been in that hearing to begin with. The hearing was meant to address a the rise of white nationalism and hate groups, a deadly serious topic—data show a
surge in fatal attacks by far-right extremists in recent years.
Why was she even used a witness on this by conservatives? I think you know why.
