The "2005 pride heavyweight" is a myth created by insecure pride nuthuggers that are still stuck in the past. Literally no one believe that myth outside of sherdog. Just like how no one glorified big nog aka the human punching outside of sherdog(he's about as irrelevant as you can get).

PRIDE's HW division being better was definitely real. PEDs were allowed or had much less testing back then. Look at Wanderlei in the UFC; a small 185er. In PRIDE he was shredded and weighed more than Cro Cop. And Wanderlei fought in the UFC before USADA. USADA is what's killed the HW division.

With no or less drug testing, half the guys at 170 and anyone from 185 lbs + that wanted to try their shot at HW could (and in the past, did) roid up to HW size. Izzy could just roid up to 230 lbs in a year and give it a shot. There'd be a 300 lb Rumble, a 250+ lb Jon Jones, a DC looking like Kevin Randleman... all gunning to prove they're the baddest man on the planet.

Sergei Kharitonov wasnt a top 5 guy in the 2005 Pride HW division but now 10 year's after his prime he's still starching the HW mma division.
