Even if he takes him down and wins how does that mean hes not for real. Oh wait this is sherdog one loss = bum until you win again.

Gane is the best of the 3 but the other 2 are as talented as any hw prospect we've had in years(besides Blaydes).

    Stiopic, Cormier, Ngannou are legit
Blaydes is a one dimensional wrestler who is often boring
Volkov has impressive cardio but doesn't have great technique anywhere, not exciting to watch
JDS is past his prime and very one dimensional
Derrick Lewis is a sloppy brawler, best thing about him is his instagram account and post-fight interviews
Overeem's still hanging in there and at least makes things exciting
    Walt Harris is pretty sloppy
Ivanov is a tank with pretty good grappling skills but is hardly above bum status

There we go, an actual good HW division.

If you are a casual then it is a logical decision that it is better than ever because it is the best it has been in a few years. If you hav been following this sport for nearly 30 years you know that the HW division has weaken over the years and is finally getting some fresh faces.

Yeah it's in a decent spot. Some interesting fighters started breaking out when the Cain/JDs era fighters all started getting old so it worked out nice

Really though it seems like the "fresh faces" are mainly the results of the zombie old names finally dropping off enough that guys who would have been mid level talent years ago are now capable of beating them, although many still aren't and are getting hype.

Its like LHW, if the standard drops off far enough then the number of "contenders" will increase as there is nobody good enough to clear out previously mid level talent.

That Miocic and Cormier are at the top of it is testament to how poor this era is.

    Both are old men.

I would admit Rozenstruik looks interesting although it kind of highlights that the UFC should have been picking up way more HW kickboxers for years.

Better than ever is of course not the case, best the best in a long time would be true. Cain just retired but back when we had Cain / JDS / Brock / Ubereem / Bigfoot etc. - that was a pretty good time in the HW division as well.

That's because you listed mostly a bunch of old past prime names and names like Harris, Volkov, Ivanov and Lewis, and called it the best HW division ever. You deserve to be laugh at.

Still as dry as ever from my seat DC barely as a fight left in him before he fully sits at the commentating desk where he's quite good. Volkov sucks and we'll see how much this weekend, Black Beast is a very, very, limited fighter bad back and bad mma in general, Overeem getting over aged and too much brain damage, the rest can work JDS gets a orange as caution because he's fading.

All prospects get green because they good to go especially Cyril Gane he's a big man with real mma skillz and not just heavy hands.

By the time Cro Cop got to the UFC he was the same age as JDS and Cain are today with twice the fight mileage. Fighters aging and going out of prime is a thing and will happen to every generation.

Good thread @Fesaine decent points raised. It’s certainly better than it’s been for a good while.

Why is everyone so taken aback from the suggestion that HW looks good right now? I agree.

Cormier has one fight left win or lose.

JDS and Reem are past their prime and should retire for their own health. Black Beast has already retired once and Stipe is already sounding punch drunk.

The division is a shell of its former self.
