You know that your belly button is not something "cut out by a doctor", right?
It's called an umbilical hernia and it's congenital. It's more common in african populations, and it's especially visible when you are flexing.

It's an attempt to forge an identity that doesn't really exist. Africa is a vast continent with many, many different parts that have never been truly united. A lot of people in the U.S. aren't aware of the accomplishments of black Americans and blacks from other non-African countries so they try to create an "African" identity to pool all of Africa's achievements.

Also, a lot U.S. citizens are terrible at geography. Take your pick.
