Matt Barr and James MacKay in the Running to Play THE FLASH

Earlier this week it was revealed that the role of the Flash for the CW TV series would be cast by the end of this month. The Flash is scheduled to first appear in a Season 2 episode of Arrow, which is set to start filming on September 30, 2013. In total, the Flash is supposed to appear on three episodes of Arrow before getting his own spinoff series.

According to Latino Review, there are three actors in the running to play The Flash. Australian actor James Mackay is reportedly one of the actors under consideration. MacKay appeared in The Straits TV series and is also in the upcoming film Singularity. Matt Barr is reportedly another of the actors in the running. Matt Barr (see pic above) played Johnse Hatfield in Hatfields & McCoys, and he appeared in the CW series Hellcats. The third actor in the running for the Flash role is unknown.

Matt Barr and James MacKay in the Running to Play Barry Allen for THE FLASH Series

Comments: What a weird coincidence. For the past few days, I've been busy making my "Superhero Fantasy Casting" for Justice League. Two days ago, I briefly considered Matt Barr for my Flash based on what I saw from him in Hellcats. But in the end, I scratched off his name because he was a bit awkward-looking for my taste as Barry Allen. As for who ended up with the role, he's a theater actor with a show in the USA Network.

Hey DL, have you ever made a thread for these fantasy castings? I always find it interesting to see who different people pick and hearing why the chose somebody and who else they considered.

Grant Gustin is the Third Actor Being Eyed as THE FLASH

According to the usually reliable scoops at Latino Review, screen testing will soon begin on three actors vying to bring the Flash to life on Arrow this season. Yesterday, the site reported that Australian actor James Mackay and Hatfields & McCoys star Matt Barr were finalists for the part. Today, Latino Review has revealed that the third actor being eyed by The CW to play Barry Allen is Grant Gustin. The American theater and television actor is best known for his role in Glee as Sebastian Smythe, an openly gay member of The Dalton Academy Warblers.

In addition to incorporating references to Metamorpho and the Atom, Arrow season 2 will pick up on October 9 some time after the events of season 1 finale

I've considered it but it's a bit redundant since there's already an official thread for some of the characters being discussed and usually posters just present their casting choices in there.

Grant Gustin Officially Cast as Barry Allen/The Flash in ARROW

Grant-Gustin-is-The-Flash-Dragonlord.jpg

Earlier this summer, the CW announced plans to not only bring Barry Allen/The Flash to their Arrow series, but had hopes of starting a spin-off series around the speedster. Now, it appears the network has found their hero in Grant Gustin (Glee). Gustin will be introduced to viewers in the eighth episode of Arrow

First of all, is Barry Allen supposed to look like he's 18? I always imagined him looking as old as Michael Rosenbaum.

Secondly, this pretty much confirms that this show won't be tied to the movies, there's no way they would keep this kid for the JL movie. Each of the main heroes is a prime spot for a bigger named actor, like Batman was for Ben.

I bet they recast Flash with Bradley Cooper or something when the actual movie is being made.

Yep, I agree with all 3 points you made.

Which also means that The CW's Arrow will most likely NOT be part of the DC Cinematic Universe.

Then there is no reason to bring superheroes to Arrow. The Flash Series does nothave to tie in to the Arrow Universe. Leave that world power free.

This casting sounds awful. The actor is 23 and looks about 16. I don't think I can take this new series seriously any more.

dam, the thing is I think Stephen Amell would be pretty dam good on screen in a live action JL movie

oh well, hopefully Gustin does good

"hopefully Gustin does good"?

Lawl. If this was a Marvel production, prod would have been, "Lame! This show is going to suck ass."

and it would!!!!!!!!!! cept if it had Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno

This! What's even the point. Arrow has a good thing going, I don't want the Red Blur to screw it up.

I supported the new superpowers because it looked and sounded like Arrow would be a part of DC's Cinematic Universe. The casting of Grant Gustin completely changed everything. He does not look like Summer Blockbuster Leading Man Material.

The only Flash that matters was the 90's Movie and TV Series.

Grant Gustin Talks THE FLASH, Admits He's a Little Young for Role

Grant-Gustin-Talks-Flash-Dragonlord.jpg

Grant Gustin: "I'm kind of running around a little bit, but mostly just for fun at this point. Just because I'm really excited...I'm a little fanboy. I'm so excited to be a part of the show. I got an audition and I was really excited and a little skeptical at first, because I'm a comic book fan. I know the character and know I'm a little young. I was at the ocean in Malibu with a buddy of mine [when he got the call he got the part]. And just had a movie moment and jumped in the ocean afterwards. It was pretty amazing."

"I know I'm coming on as up-and-coming in my field [as an assistant forensics scientist]. He's not going to be The Flash immediately, obviously. We're going to be Barry Allen first in two episodes and then he'll come back later as The Flash. I haven't actually had a chance to read any scripts yet, so we'll see."

"I didn't realize before I started doing all my research that he can actually time travel, he can run so fast. I think that'd be a really fun thing to play with on the show is him kind of going to different times and experimenting with that. That'd be fun. "I would imagine, when The Flash comes he'll be in a pretty traditional Flash costume. That's kind of what I've caught wind of."
