Indie The First Berseker: Khazan

Beat Maluca finally. Hardest boss I’ve fought in a long time. Took four hours or so and been fighting him since Tuesday. Beat him Friday morning. His first stage is a joke but when he powers up it’s so incredibly difficult. He’s fast as fuck, has super long combos, hits hard, and can heal himself. I’m still playing on normal but I was so tempted to drop down because of him. I’m really hoping the next few are a bit easier. This boss demanded you to play perfectly. This game is harder than any Souls game I’ve played but gaining lacrima for losing and being able to fight any boss again at any time make it a little less frustrating. If this game made you do long corpse runs I would have uninstalled it lol
I just got to Maluca. He is a giant piece of shit lol

I’m honestly a little let down by Monster Hunter and I’ll pry drop it until there’s a more substantive game there. This seems like it might be a nice title to get into.

I never did play the demo so I’ll give it a shot and see if I like it enough to pick this up. Games take me like a month to finish now so I need something to fill in the gap between now and DOOM.

Sold, ordered. It’ll be here tomorrow. This game is fucking rad.

Got this pre order and have been playing it since. This is a tough game on normal difficulty, probably similar Sekiro’s difficulty. The combat feels like a mix of Sekiro and Nioh 2 imo and this is where the game really shines. And the boss fights in khazan are absolutely unmatched.

This isn’t just another parry game. The game doesn’t force you to play in any particular way and you can beat this game by just dodging (for all the souls vets), but learning when to parry, and when to dodge/reflect/counter attack is the true art in the combat

I’ve beat the game now so doing NG+ using a different weapon. Went dual wield for the first play through so using spear this time round. It’s a linear game, with a half decent story and little exploration, which will lose points with some players. However, the combat is the best I’ve experienced in any soulslike, and I’ve played pretty much all of them

You need to be aggressive when he’s in his dual sword phase. This is where you need to do all your damage. He gives you some easy opportunities for reflections as well

When he whips out the katana, it’s all about being defensive/passive and perfecting those brink guards to break his posture. Get a couple of hits in where you can but it’s really about surviving this phase until he goes back to dual wielding again. Great boss fight once you’ve actually beaten him. Horrible when first get to him though because his 2nd phase seems insurmountable

What weapon are you guys using? So far the spear seems to be the way to go. Greatsword is ok but the dual weild sucks. Range is abysmal.

Is the aim mechanic for range still chunky or have they patched that up? I remember javelins feeling just plain unfun to use where I expected a highlight addition to combat.

I haven't noticed an issue but im still in the demo. Got to Blade Phantom.

You have skills you can add to dual wield (as you progress) where you can instantly close the distance - flash cutter, deftness and wind piercer. Staying within Range and being constantly aggressive is really not difficult if you add the right skills to your build

Spear appears to be the most user friendly (as per Reddit), but all 3 weapon classes are strong with the right skills added

Dual wield entire game so far. Just beat Trokka and plan to stick with it the whole way. I want to eventually do one playthrough with each of the three main weapons.

Blade Phantom was fun as hell, I’m loving the timed block mechanic but the actual parry is taking some getting used to. I’m also running with the dual blades. Seems to suit my play style of playing aggressively.

I won’t spoil anything but the boss of stage 3 is fucking insane. In any other game it would have been a mid to end game boss. I wasn’t expecting that level of challenge so early on. 2 hours so far and no victory yet. Getting close though. I’m not using the summon things in this playthrough. Going for that trophy that requires you to beat the game without them
Fuck this boss.

Down to my last heal, got him down. Thought he went down a little too quickly and sure enough, second phase.

I don't think I'm progressing past Maluca. He'd be manageable if he didn't heal. But boss healing mechanics are cheap dogshit and insulting to the player.

He was even more insane pre-nerf. A lot of these games are way harder in the first week. Lies of P was that way too with the Archbishop and Puppet Master. Probably best to avoid the first week but I can't help myself.

I beat him by brink dodging a lot and following up with attacks and not giving him as much time to recover his stamina. Guarding didn't help me as much in this fight.

As soon as he starts healing hit him with a charge attack. It usually knocks him out of it.

Alright, Viper down. It ended up turning into a really fun fight. Probably took about a dozen tries or so but once I got the timing down I could pretty much get out of his first phase untouched. Second was a little bullshit at times but mostly just because I had fraction of the attempts on it.

I’m really hoping I unlock a blacksmith soon, I have all these materials and nothing to do with them.

Just got to him last night. I got him down to about 25% health in his second phase. I only
Have three heals. How do you get the fourth?

The boss health pools are a little ridiculous in this game.
