Indie The First Berseker: Khazan

Damn 80 hours seems way to long for a game like this.
That’s because it is, ha. That’s full-bore open-world and/or RPG, strat territory. I hope the skill tree featured in the demo was a sampling then because there’s nowhere near enough combat depth to radicalise different playstyles and keep things fresh.

Yea I thought about giving this a chance after I get the plat for ME3 but not anymore. I want to make sure I'm not playing anything when Expedition 33 comes out. I'll have to find something else.

If you liked the demo and want more of the same it seems like a generally safe rule that you’ll enjoy it. I’d just wait for reviews if you’re on the fence. Like I said that’s all rumors. People aren’t suppose to give their opinions until Monday so we don’t know everything there is to offer yet. I still think the game is 30 hours based on the trophies. It might be like Nioh where there will be bonus missions that involve replaying the maps with different enemies or boss rushes. Sucks that people seem negative on the game now. I still going to keep my preorder. Very excited for it and I think I’ll complete it before expedition 33 which is a month away from this release

Honestly, likelier, yeah. Good stuff. I want to know, though, how many weapons we get over those 80h in addition to the three we demo'd. Those numbers are hard to believe TBH, lol. I was thinking 30h for story but that's side quests alone? Dang.
I think those numbers are BS and it will be like Nioh where you repeat missions that add different enemies or replace enemies with bosses you fought previously. Theres even a mission select screen. Anyway it has me very curious. Reviews will be out early next week since the game comes out on 24th. Sounds like you and method are in the wait for review camp. Personally I don’t mind taking the risk because review these days spoil top much.

Yea to be clear though I still want to get the game. It's just a matter of not having the time to fit it in. I think you're right though and I have a hard time seeing this as an 80 hour game. Most likely just a rumor\completionist type run.

I think ‘risk’ is the wrong word however the game pans out. Polished AF, dude. You’re in good hands.

My only real concern is combat superficiality especially now over the rumored runtime. This game is blowing up across my PS friends list though so like you’d presumed, I’ve cold feet on preorder and want to see reception.

Idk, It looks really clunky and stiff from what I've seen, the UI and art direction look kinda ugly to me too. I think I'll wait a while to see what reviews are saying when it's fully released. It could feel great to play for all I know, but not even Ongbal could make that gameplay look compelling. Really didn't like the sound effects, very generic action game stuff

Instead of watching videos just download the demo. It’s either going to save you money or convince you to buy it. Most who have played it are very positive about it. One of the better Soulslike games imo. Only other ones I enjoyed this much were Nioh and Lies of P although maybe it won’t reach those heights. I’m expecting a low 80s metacritic which is perfectly fine with me.

Ahh I should have read the thread more closely, I was under the impression there was only a closed beta some time ago and that was it until release. Thank you! Gonna give this a try this weekend

Is this open world?

How did you find the gameplay? I haven't tried the demo, but im def going to before release. Its freaking 3 days away, had no idea!

What would you compare the gameplay too? I liked what I heard from devs what saying we can dodge or parry and that there several ways of approaching combat, much like a Souls proper game.

I didn't know about this game, or I forgot, looks awesome. Is it a JRPG? I wish square would bring back turn based in their mainline FF games.

It’s like Nioh with mission(s) per map, except smaller and blander maps.

The gameplay is tight and has a cool evade or dash attack combat mechanic that you can spec into deeper or not. The enemies are really easy to kite and have dumb-dumb pathfinding but it’s fine.

There’s also EvE where enemies fight each other and you can third-party them which is rad, IMO. There’s a secondary weapon system to arms that are projectiles; you get a powerful-feeling javelin x5, for example, but the cooldown is insane and the aim mechanic sucks.

Overall combat feels samey after a while and this is ultimately what stopped me from preordering. If this game were fairer priced, I’d probably have preordered. The art direction is basic, poor but the art style is really good.

I tried the demo but maybe wasn't in the mood. If reminded me more of Nioh than Dark Souls which I dont like and it felt like quick blocking was a necessity.

Fextralife gave it a 9 out of 10 and Fightin Cowboy said “the most fun I’ve had with a soulslike since Nioh 2 and Sekiro”. High praise coming from two YouTubers that mostly play this genre. Very excited to jump into this tonight once the family is asleep. Apparently it gets super hard too, like the first two levels and nothing compared to the second half. Not going to post reviews in case some don’t want spoilers. I just listened to them without watching as a normally do with review videos.

Just watched Cowboy's. He loves his ungabunga lol. He's my go to in Souls games when if I get stuck.

I watched Fextra's as well. I like that they spent more time on the setting/story/world building, something Cowboy tends to glance over, being more combat focused.

For me those things are as important as gameplay. I prefer a great sense of purpose, the only thing that held Nioh 2 back from being in my upper echelon of Souls-likes, though the gameplay was always top of the foodchain and more than strong enough to push me on.

It sounds like we got the best of both worlds, strong purpose/narrative and stellar gameplay. With transmog present, and the ability to re-fight bosses at will, I'm sold!

Thanks for keeping this game in the discussion, I really didn't expect much from noob devs in a Souls-like/RPG's, let alone coming from the Dungeon Fighter franchise.

Just beat the blade phantom. Took like an hour.
BP was easy for me but not Yetuga. Took far longer than an hour on him for me. BP was visually fantastic, though.

Yetuga took me a handful of tries. He's got some very large punish windows. Fun fight but definitely frustrating at first.

I won’t spoil anything but the boss of stage 3 is fucking insane. In any other game it would have been a mid to end game boss. I wasn’t expecting that level of challenge so early on. 2 hours so far and no victory yet. Getting close though. I’m not using the summon things in this playthrough. Going for that trophy that requires you to beat the game without them

I'm getting salty in the shit area with the lizards where you have to traverse stairs and deal with the dumb archers.

Try to beat up some melee enemies before fighting them to build up energy and used the ranged attacks on the archers
