The fight that defined GSP

It wasn't just this fight I suspect, also the first match with BJ were GSP lost the striking but won the grappling.

Ultimately though I think GSP fought to his strengths, he simply wasn't a great aggressive striker, he was great at keeping opponents at range and timing takedowns.

If GSP had gone toe to toe with Condit, Alves, Kos and Hendricks I suspect he would have been finished at least once.

He went toe to toe with condit got.head kicked and then played it safe like always to avoid stand up.

The same Condit you claimed was on his last legs (in one of your many stupid threads) on a 5 fight win streak?

Going toe to toe with Bisping even past his prime is a good enough striking for me

What a fight.. I was literally thinking at the time “wow, Georges must have read one of my posts about his fights being boring”. He showed a killer instinct in that one I didn’t even know he had.

Not claiming it didn’t happen. I’m talking the immediate run up to GSP, the fighter everyone is attempting to shit on. Bisping finished Rockhold and outstruck Andy in those 2 fights.
Well, if it helps, I defended GSP in this thread. ;)

GSP took Kos eye out with a clean jab

Penn took GSP's eye out with a clean eye poke.

To each its own.
Tss tss tss
Reminds me of when BJ Penn eye-poked GSP in their first fight

George's eye was completely fucked, he saw double and all.

Between eye poker and steroid cheats, poor Georges had his hands full during his reign.

hmmm...yeah... that´s a myth.

vs BJ 1: that pseudo "eye poke" was not from an extended finger, was the result of a left hook [startin´a combo], probably [since 'hidden' angle] a knuckle grazin´ No Rush´s eye.

BJ - thumb 3.png BJ - thumb 4.png BJ - thumb 5.png

The 3rd & 4th pic. clearly shows that the fist was closed & the thumb not extended.

But this ´narrative´(originally dropped live by Rogan who´s always had [historically] a limited understandin´of the technical sequences (see how he assesses [supposedly] 'tight' subz...) has always been used by the No Rush fanbase as an excuse for his shortcomings in that fight.

The reality: No Rush´s strikin´& [then] limited skill set was exposed in that fight, & against... an undersized opponent.

It iz what it iz.

2nd hughes fight. absolutely blasted matt from the jump and hit him with every strike in the book. hurt him bad at the end of the first, and finished him with the head kick and elbows in the 2nd to snatch the belt.

Well yes indeed. Condit almost knocked him out and if you look at his record after that fight he has gone 2-7. Since you have read other threads i have made possibly you peeped the one where i made the case for condit not being this all time great we make him out to be. Hes a good fighter with tremendous heart tremendous chin amazing striking but a pedestrian record which makes a win over him a good win not a legacy cementing win. Insead of insults, make a real case for your guy.

Once.

Hughes faked the second hit,and admitted as such later,to get a breather.
He 100% admitted it.
This one is a fallacy, indeed.

Admitted or not, The problem is not the 2nd one, it´s the 1st one.
BJM´s duty was to give a stern warnin´to No Rush after that 1st one, which would have:

1- prevented No Rush from givin´another [risky] one [potential 1 point deduction]

2- made Hughes less worried about another leg kick
Consequently, he would have [arguably] kept a much more 'balanced´ stance & perhaps avoided the head kick.

Matt said: "It´s not my groin. My legs feel like they´re asleep"
BJM:"Well, the way I see it, I think he hit you in the leg & it slid up"

then:
Matt:"George kept kickin´me with those leg kicks, and I dropped my hands to block"

The problem that georges has is that he doesnt have a legacy cementing fight that 100 years from now people will still watch. There is literally zero hl reel stuff for posterity and to capture future generation imaginations.

Think about the anderson, fedor and bones hl reels. In 100 years from now fight historians will reference some of their finishes and classic fights with other legends. Gsp will not have his fights dissected and studied. He will be be forgotton because he just didnt deliver excitement and finishes.

What has any of that got to do with you saying Condit was on his last legs when he fought GSP when he was on a 5 fight win streak which included wins over Ellenberger, Rory, Hardy, DHK and Nick Diaz? What happened post GSP fight is irrelevant

How do you explain how a guy goes 2-8 including that fight and we dont say hes on the downside. He had some nice wins prior but he was on the downside just happened to start with gsp.

having two title fights where you were so close, one in which you were arguably robbed, after a long career probably saps the fire out of you to train & compete at the same level.

*kinda should be noted that a lot of people think he basically won a title fight after the Georges loss

Prime hughes legends victories are prime penn and prime.gsp

Gsp legends victories are past prime hughes and lw penn.

I feel like hughes doesnt get enough hespect for those huge wins over guys in their prime.

How do you explain a guy who is on a 5-0 win streak beating some really good fighters earning a title shot? A guy on his last legs

He beat dan hardy to get it. Well at least he finished him.

There were three fights that defined GSP.

His defeat of Matt Hughes in their rematch to begin his reign.

The Serra saga.

And the Bisping victory.
