The only thing that bugged me about galactus was that he was hurt a little too easily imo.

I'm going to start off by saying: You are absolutely correct.

But, power scaling in comics has always been garbage. Always.

Thanos beat the crap out of The Hulk. The idea Captain America could hold him back for even a picosecond is ludicrous.

Galactus has been interacting with the Fantastic Four for fifty years, it's always been mostly silly. Do you remember when Hercules attacked Galactus?

I don't worry about this stuff, especially not in film which is a much more shallow medium.

There's a YouTube channel I really enjoy that talks about the physics of super powers, even heroes like Iceman are doing insane things from a scientific perspective, let alone speedsters.

Haha, fair enough. For me, he already graduated from being Eddie Munson from Stranger Things after seeing him in a lot of his feature work after the series. He's a very good actor and will probably be a bigger star in the future.

He was good as the co-lead in A Quiet Place: Day One playing a British law student.

He was fantastic (pun intended) as the deranged co-emperor in Gladiator II which he also co-stars with Mister Fantastic. That's Ed Sheeran in the middle (don't do any research, just trust me).

He was pretty good in Alex Garland's gritty war drama Warfare. But the lasting impression I had about him in that movie was his joyous reaction to watching a workout video at the beginning of the film.

And of course, who can forget Joseph Quinn's side job as one of the member of N'Sync and having a successful solo music career.

I love those whoa moments also when I realize that certain actors were in these famous movies or TV shows in the past.

Quinn was also in Game of Thrones season 7 where he played one of the Winterfell guards who wouldn't let Arya Stark inside the gates.

I really enjoyed this and felt it was a throwback to when Marvel kept surprising us with new and fresh takes on different characters. Every new film was a surprising and fun. But then we had this stretch of really boring and formulaic movies that just felt flat and unimaginative. The only complaint I have is that it didn't lead more into Doomsday. It's really the same complaint I've had about most of the multiverse saga movies. There doesn't feel like there's any connective tissue between any of these movies. And the post credit scenes were anti climatic as well. During the Infinity Saga every post credit felt meaningful. You were anticipating them almost as much as the film itself. But during the multiverse saga, they just have felt meaningless.

Personally, I like that First Steps for the most part is just a simple standalone story and didn't have a Doomsday subplot inserted in there. There's a danger if they incorporated Doomsday elements it could have disrupted the flow of First Steps, similar to what happened with Iron Man 2 where it felt like they were introducing unnecessary characters and storylines just to promote future Marvel movies.

We are already getting Doomsday next year and we already know the F4 characters are in it. So there's a sense of comfort knowing that the F4 in First Steps will lead to a more prominent role in the greater MCU storyline. It's not like other characters like Shang-Chi who was stuck in limbo for a long time, who didn't have a sequel planned or other appearances in the MCU or not knowing when he will appear again (FYI he's in Doomsday).

ok cool, I haven't wanted to but haven't seen the quiet place or gladiator sequels. this is literally the only thing other than Stranger Things that I've seen him in.

8.5/10

Way better than I thought it was gonna be. It felt like the first Avengers movie. If you are interested in the competition, this is a way more cohesive and less fluffy than Superman. I feared it being woke, like the dudes in the movie acting like idiots for the girl or a gay guy to save the day - I never picked up on anything of that sort (except maybe for one scene but that would be nitpicking).

I'm a big fan of the Poker Face series, so the actress showing up from that show was a plus for me. I feel pretty optimistic on the Avengers: Doomsday/Secret Wars storyline after seeing this.

There are some odd scenes in the movies like the F4 acting like join Presidents/PM's of the entire world that they're in but whatever.

Just saw it. Honestly, really really liked it. Maybe loved it, but I'd need to see it again before saying that. I don't usually get excited for Marvel movies anymore, but I was for this, and I was not disappointed.

I've always loved the F4. I have the giant OG Kirby/Lee omnibuses and the John Byrne run too. I'm just happy they were finally done right. It was long overdue, and long deserved. They're up there with Spider-Man, Batman, Hulk etc as the most iconic and influential heroes of all time for me. Without them, Marvel would not be where they are today.

What comes across is that everyone gave a shit and wanted to make this great. From the actors, all of whom I thought were great, especially Ebon as Ben and Joseph Quinn as Johnny, to the writer(s) and director. And fucking finally, we got Galactus. After the giant cloud Galactus in the other movie, I honestly never thought we'd see him again. But we did, and he's a giant purple motherfucker that eats planets. Fuck yeah.

I'm just excited to see where they go from here. I think Marvel has a winner with this film and this cast. Bring on Doomsday.

If you were ever into F4 comics and stuff, they nailed so much of the aesthetic and brought a bunch of scenes and moments from the comics to life, it was awesome, but, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan did it fucking drag. I thought Superman dragged, but Superman's like Jason Statham's Crank compared to this. And it's very schmaltzy. Everything with Galactus was fucking incredible, though. They didn't fuck around with him much, gave the fans exactly what they wanted.

The movie's biggest drawback probably is that everything in it, you have already seen a billion times before. And I mean everything. The structure is almost paint by numbers. It's the perfect superhero flick from 2002. Overall, it's alright. Didn't hate it. Superman was more fun, though.

The Boys and Invincible do the best job I’ve seen of making the power scaling “realistic” - but to do that you have to make things horrific and this was a family film.

I just wish they tried to nuke him and failed. Or had a line of dialogue that mentioned Johnny could throw fireballs as hot as the sun. It doesn’t have to make perfect sense; it just has to feel earned. Like when they escaped the surfer. You can’t really do that kind of stuff around a black hole or a neutron star but they earned it with tone and storytelling.

10/10 for me just because it got SO much right and made me feel ALL the right things.

I can't believe how good Ebon was as Ben Grimm, I had literally no hopes for him. Vanessa Kirby was perfect and even Joseph Quinn was great as Johnny, the character I usually don't care about.

And Pedro... Just when I thought I couldn't like him any more, he raises the bar again. The writing and dialogue for Reed were spectacular, and Pedro sold it all. Pedro and Vanessa had perfect chemistry, and I loved them working through conflict. All it, they were completely believable.

Taking on Galactus was never an easy story to tell in the comics, and I'm glad the film knocked this ALL the way out of the park.

Smiled when I saw the empty seat for the delegate from Latveria.
Good to see a positive Pedro comment. I’ve seen nothing but hate lately

So I saw this yesterday and wanted to give myself some time to really think about it and how I ultimately feel about the movie.

First off, to absolutely no shock whatsoever, this is the best Fantastic Four movie ever. Low bar, but it still needed to be said.

They absolutely NAILED the feel of the family dynamic of the team. These aren't just random people thrown together to protect the world, they love each other as only a family can.

Even though I'm still not sold on Pasquel as Reed, the movie did an excellent job of portraying the character. I see others aren't liking how his powers were portrayed, but Reed was never really a wacky shapes type of guy.
(Him doing an awesome Stretch Armstrong impersonation was a nice touch).

The Thing, Invisible Woman, and Human Torch were perfect (minus Johnny becoming a linguistics expert). I didn't have any issues with Silver Surfer being Shala Bel and it felt right for the film (still need a 616 Norrin Radd Surfer).

I thought the old time feel of the movie was great.

The initial reaction the team had when seeing Big G for the 1st time was perfect. I think the music really helped set the scene here. I do have one problem with it that I'll get to in the spoilers.

Thought the whole space chase was done really really well.

Now for some spoilery fun:

Like Dragon, I enjoyed Reed name dropping some villains, especially Diablo who is a bit of a deep cut). One question though, where are the heroes? You'd think that there would have been at least a few more since there are obviously villains running around.

Moleman was cool (especially the Giganto cameo), but he needed the moloids.

Sue's "mom speach" didn't work for me. You're telling me the world is ending because she won't sacrifice Franklin and under 100 people show up to protest? Nope, doesn't work for me.

Johnny being able to decipher Surfers language so fast, and yet Reed who's one of (if not the) smartest people on the planet can't figure it out or write a program to do it? Yeah, that's a no.

Not sure what they were doing with the Thing's "romance".

Hot take here #1 but they blew it with Galactus. He should have been set up as the next big universal threat on a Thanos level, but he got shoved though a door... and that scene felt weird since Sue was "pushing" him and it looked like he should have been falling over, but didn't? Didn't like it. Give me the Ultimate Nullifier and it would have worked much better and been more in line with the comics.

That ending 5ish minutes should have been a mid credits scene. They nailed the tone of the movie really well until then. Have the TV host do his thing but just have the stage be empty. Maybe add a "and we'll be right back with a word from our sponsers" and leave it at that.

The whole Franklin is a Mary Sue thing fits the character, but I think it was too early for him to be here. Just another reason I think having Galatus as their 1st big bad was a mistake.

The movie was a slower pace, which is fine, and I think helped with setting the stage for how big of a threat they were facing, but it also felt like they were trying to include too much too soon.

I really think that having Galactus as the first foe that they faced on screen wasn't a good choice, but I get they couldn't use you know who with the next Avengers movie coming out, but there are many other villains that could have been used in his place and still worked (Frightful Four, Annihilus, Blastarr, Skrulls, Puppet Master, Diablo, etc). Galactus should have been a slow burn just like they did with Thanos.

I thought the movie was really good and a great way to introduce the Fantastic Four into the MCU without having to shoehorn them into the existing timeline (I know people hate the alternate universes and stuff, but it can work really well if done right). They nailed got so much right, but a few things I think they missed on that hurt it in my eyes. Still 100% worth seeing on the big screen.

8/10

Big hot take - I think Thunderbolts* was the better overall movie.

I was honestly bored by this movie. It was all spectacle with very little character development. You can have the best action in movie history but if you don't give us a reason to identify with the characters then it all means nothing. Torch and Thing had nothing to work with and Sue only spouted platitudes about family. Only Reed had anything approaching characterization.
