Anyone who believes that UFC 300 was "mid AF on paper" isn't a fan of the sport, and their opinion is basically irrelevant.

Yeah thats such a fucking dumb take on a site full of them. I thought a bigger main event would have been nice, Jones, Conor, something that really pops for a 300 kind of event so I was disappointed we didnt get that. But that doesnt make the event mid, that was a great card on paper and lived up to the hype.

Just feels like people hate the UFC so much in here these days nothing they do is good.

Why does a PPV need to a "super fight" in order to be good?
Champ vs Champ fights in itself should be rare and this whole fad of double champion is ruining divisions imo
Regular ppv? No

UFC 300 which is a milestone event? Definitely fair to expect a super fight or 2

To each their own I guess
For me good fights topped with a title fight suffices
300 is just a number

Honestly none of the champs are really long lasting and remarkable. You have guys like Islam and Pereira, but it's tons of new champs and the guard is changing. I get why it doesn't feel as "big" as it used to. I think its a valley right now until the divisions shake out. Also inactivity of any of the top guys who are content waiting 6months to a year for a free title shot. UFC needs to pull out the whips and make it normal to fight 3x a year, it's not hard.

Are you serious? Poatan vs Hill isn't mid AF? And co main event wasn't the epitome of mid AF? UFC 300 was great. No one is denying that. But was it anywhere close to 100 and 200? No, it was a good PPV but a mid AF x00 event. If you guys don't see this, there is literally no point in arguing, you can go back watching below average events and delude yourself into thinking it's great.

308 is awesome if Khamzat vs Rob still happens. Most fights can't co.e close to justifying the price tag but as still fun.

I voted "Good" (Not Excellent) though the UFC does put on some Excellent PPV's.

We have to keep in mind what the other orgs are doing, because even a low quality UFC PPV card is still better than some of the top events hosted by others.

I feel the hard work they put into developing fighter's names with their reality shows, Embedded, countdown etc... & overall promotion of events make their events more interesting & by knowing the fighters better, it makes for a better PPV.

They do have a certain range of better to worse, but since I'd rather watch UFC than the others, I'd say it's hard to accurately discount their shows too much by comparison.

If you can get 3 or 4 fights that interests you, it's a good event. Expecting a banger stacked card every time is unreasonable imo.

Most cards throughout history (As long as I remember) have been like that. Stacked cards have always been few and far between in relation to the UFC..

The card in question (Sphere) has 4 fights that interests me..

O'Malley vs Merab
Ortega vs Lopes
Rosas JR vs Aori
Grasso vs Valentina

(in that order)

Good enough. Look forward to it..
This ^

Even comparing the UFC to itself in the past, we had a certain range of some being better than others, but they arguably remain a level above the rest... & some were absolutely Excellent throughout their whole history.

I've been watching since they began, & even attended some early PPV showz. (Mark Kerr's debut tournament was my first live show) I feel that some Pride events were every bit teh quality of UFC & some other orgs had their shining moments, but they all have their good to bad range & so we can't discount teh UFC but so much while they remain at teh top.

I picked excellent.
I have watched UFC for 20 years.
I will be watching next year.

Soon i will join a cheese forum so I can bitch about cheese.

Not really.

OK. Thanks.

I remember how people used to bitch that GSP only fought twice a year when he was champ...

Then we got to Khabib fighting once a year, lol

Anyways, I like the point you bring up.

Also consider: Khabib retired in his prime after just 3 defenses
Cejudo vacated in his prime
Jones vacated the LHW belt in his prime
Ngannou left the UFC in his prime

I understand that losing is part of the sport... but it's the politics of it that's really harming the sport too.

The Jon Jones LHW dynasty came to an end due to politics. Dana White threw Jones under the bus in public because Jones was asking for more money to move to HW.

Similarly, with Ngannou they refused to pay the man his worth and once again threw him under the bus...

Conor held out for years due to politics as well. There seems to be a lot of Dana White affecting the sport, and top tier champs. Khabib wanted to fight GSP... Dana said no.

I mean as a fan I want the guys to get paid, but also if they could force them to fight 3x a year to earn it would be a win for everyone. At a certain point we have to admit guys today are inactive. I would hate if they didn't fight more to get paid more.

Most cards are pretty watered down nowadays, and they always ruin them with the women fights that they force upon the consumer, I always skip those fights, 99% of the time they are to weak to really hurt each other, and the general skill, 16-7 blue belt level bjj at the best with crazy flexibility and dexterity.

Yea, remember when Khamzat was supposed to be the next big thing?

Then dude just disappeared

Jones left LHW at the right time. His last 2 fights against somewhat average fighters were very close.

These numbers are pretty telling. Over 44% of the voters think PPVs are either below average or bad. Less than 25% think it is above average. Less than 5% think it is excellent.

Exactly. The numbers don't lie

Yea, but he didn't actually leave the division.

He vacated the belt due to disputes with Dana over an increase in pay for a move to HW.

This is why Jones was out for years

I mean it really is depending on what you pay for them, in the US you guys have to pay around USD 80 per pay per view whereas I get all the UFC galas and premier league football matches for about USD 30 per month. I wouldn't think it was worth it if I had to pay 80 per ppv.
