The Death of PPVs and the Case for Piracy - A Deep Dive

They did this to themselves imo. They used to have a good product that was worth paying for. That is no longer the case. If you're going to insist on pushing out trash every card, you shouldn't be shocked when nobody wants to pay for it. They should lean more on advertising revenue and increasing their watchability instead of trying to bleed fans for more money. UFC began it's death spiral when the Zuffa era ended.

If they somehow scaled prime Bas Rutten to clash with electrifying, rising Conor McGregor in the same card with a Brock Lesnar vs Ronda Rousey* and GSP vs Anderson Silva it still wouldn't be worth paying 85$ or whatever the fuck they're pricing it now.

Dana White doesn't pay fo PPVs, so I don't either.

Hell, he watches boxing PPVs that he doesn't pay for while his own ufc PPV is going on live right in front of his face. THAT'S how entertaining his own UFC PPVs are

Honestly, as a fight fan, I can't blame Dana, I co stream events all the time and I don't think even being president or whatever of the UFC would stop me.

At this point, I don't think even Dana gives a shit about PPV numbers, it's all VC cash and contracts now, the company isn't living or dying by its next fight card, which is why every event used to be stacked.

In the last few years, I paid for a total of 3 PPVs, watched most others at the bar.

I don't feel bad for the fighters they choose to be shafted by UFC when they can be in other organizations and make more, they must be in UFC that's their own problem that they're contributing to keeping the sport a monopoly they have no right to complain about pay.

The original comment I wanted to put on this thread is how overrated UFC is in general and I would never pay for their events unless they were like $20 lol, this event tonight 315 aside from the main fight is shit and fighters on it are forgettable. I just finished watching Rizin recent event which was really a good time HW tournament many highly entertaining fights, there's no way this card tonight is gonna be better than that yet there's these new generation fans that will purchase every shitty UFC card for the brand retards all of them, I skip so many UFC events and am generally perplexed by the insane fandom for their product and I get they have the most top talent signed but they don't have it all, the last 5 years I've been the least uninterested in UFC and gravitate towards PFL, Rizin, ACA etc, and find them to be a product without the absurd PPV costs.
One FC Muay Thai on Friday mornings has been phenomenal, and free on YouTube. Honestly I think their Muay Thai is more interesting than a lot of the MMA they put on. I kind of like the mixed cards though of some MMA fights, some Muay Thai fights, and some BJJ contests sprinkled in.

There aren't any females in here man you don't need to try so hard

Gossip. Bad jokes. Emotional instability on a monthly basis. Hating on women. Attention whoring:

Trust me, there are plenty of females here.

Billie Jean King beat a dude pro at tennis back in the 70's.

Back in the 70s, but the dude pro was a pro from the 40s, and she beat a 55 year old retired guy who had turned into a gambler and a hustler and likely threw the match. Even at 55, he beat the actual #1 woman Margaret Court 6-2, 6-1(Billie Jean King finished the year ranked #2 behind Court), then took long odds as the 5-1 favorite and likely had someone place a bet against him.

It was an arranged match. Not a real competition. The Italian mafia made an absolute killing on the bets for that match because they were the ones who arranged it. It was one of the biggest sporting events of all time and saw massive amounts of betting.

I think the last UFC card I watched was UFC 200. It has been so shit for so long. I am flabbergasted that anyone would pay $80 for that low effort dog shit. We are a long way from GSP, Silva, Chuck, Shogun, Griffin/Bonnar, Brock, etc.

I’m sure the UFC would love to 100% end all piracy with the assumption that people would be forced to pay for PPV’s

And I’m sure a small percentage of people would pay, but honestly, I think most would not pay and lose all interest in the sport, which would only hurt them in the long run

Pride FC at the beginning used to mix cards with kickboxing and mma some Karate fights, I used to like those a lot now there's Rizin so it's great.
