Yeah, I'm not sure I agree. I think any harshness against socialism in current politics is as likely to be fallout from the Venezuela disaster as it is from the Cold War. I agree about the resurgence being due to academic efforts though.

Venezuela, to me, is just another example of the wisdom of distrust in the long term viability of those systems and philosophies. There are plenty of ideas that sound great in theory that have no hope succeeding in the real world once human nature is involved.

Frankly, I've always thought Marxism in its various formats sounds terrible in theory: Let's overly empower a small cadre of political radicals to create a utopia by giving other people our stuff.

So like the stock market for the rich? Zero fossil fuels is a neccessity anyone who promotes fossil fuel use shouldn't even have a public platform and the fossil fuel companies are being sued for covering up climate change.

That's because the Democratic Party is full of conservatives. Saying "oh the Democrats don't support her" doesn't really mean anything because most are in the Republican corner. Look at Jack Savage!

On certain issues damm straight. Fake freedom of speech virtue signalling doesn't work on me.

People feeling safe and comfortable climate denying is going to go down in history as one of the greatest tragedy's in US history. Might even end up framing how history remembers freedom of speech in general.

I actually have never accused Trump of such a thing. Unlike many my hatred of these policies would shine just as bright if not brighter if someone else was President. I hate policies and want to punish people for actual reasons unlike some who prefer witchunts.

But yeah we have several real crisis going on unlike the one at the border. But regardless I don't believe people had the modern 21st century interpretation of freedom of speech. Ever. It was understood as a way to keep people out of jail for criticizing government officials, which like most of the Bill of Rights was meant to address a specific thing the British had done in the past, not to give people a stupidity license to be given an audience and credibility which is what people want it to be.
