I don't think she's necessarily stupid in this case. You have to admit though this is an area (minimum wage/standard of living) that is a prominent political talking point for her and she's tweeting false information to her followers to get them worked up. That's a pretty sketchy image, when a politician provides false information to make a point about some issue that is dear to them. You can think they're opportunistic liars, stupid, or just made a genuine slip, take your pick. I think there is a very good chance she made a genuine slip and tweeted something she hadn't fully verified, but my thought on that is "Verify before you talk - your voice has lots of people listening to it." I can understand people thinking she's either stupid or a liar though and, frankly, both are possible. She is slowly but surely building a track record for tweeting/saying things that are half truths or outright falsehoods.

As for how we generally react to things like this, consider it. If Trump rambles on about clean coal and then gives an outright false number concerning something related to it that makes coal power look good, we'll call him an outright liar - as it should be. Actually, he does stuff like that all the time and we (rightly) call him either a liar or an idiot for it. Even if we give her the benefit of the doubt, and even if she's not nearly as bad as Trump, I think her repeated gaffes are eyebrow raising. How often does she get to have these gaffes before we take the stance of "can you start double checking that what you're about to tweet is accurate before you say it?" This isn't exactly an isolated incident.

i have stated before that being a partisan hack politician does not necessarily mean someone is stupid. You can disagree with them vehemently but they can be intelligent or stupid.

So many of the things people say 'oh she said something stupid' are based on them disagreeing in a partisan way and wanting to label the elements of that disagreement as stupid which , again is just very partisan.

I don't agree with many elements of the Green New Deal but others are not automatically stupid to agree with elements I do not. To simply say 'oh she believes that... ergo stupid' is just wrong.

Look at the stuff I quoted above that Trump said. It requires no partisan spin. And also no partisan spin can save it. It is just stupid on his face. That is why I saw you can post the quote and do not need to give your own explanation or spin as to why its stupid.

Trump makes dozens and dozens of such stupid statements on the regular. OEC does not.

“Epic fail': Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is slammed for claiming the GOP changed the Constitution to prevent FDR being re-elected - when the 22nd Amendment was drafted two years after he died.”

And she’s not dumb.

She didn’t miss speak she just has no idea what the hell she is talking about.

Things escalate fast as Liz Cheney, AOC spar over 22nd Amendment

House Reps. Liz Cheney and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez clashed on Twitter over each other's understanding of the Constitution.

Cheney, R-Wyo., took issue with a comment Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., made during a recent MSNBC town hall event in which the freshman congresswoman talked about Democrats being in control of Congress in the 1930s and 1940s.

“When our party was boldest, the time of the New Deal, the Great Society, the Civil Rights Act and so on, we had, and carried, supermajorities in the House, in the Senate. We carried the presidency,” she told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes.

“They had to amend the Constitution of the United States to make sure (President Franklin D.) Roosevelt did not get reelected,” Ocasio-Cortez continued.

In response to Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks, Cheney tweeted: “We knew the Democrats let dead people vote. According to AOC, they can run for president too.”

The New Yorker then fired off her own response.

“Hey Rep. Cheney, I see from your dead people comment that you get your news from Facebook memes, but the National Constitution Center + Newsweek are just two of many places where you can clarify your misunderstanding of the history of the 22nd Amendment,” she wrote.

According to the National Constitution Center, discussion of the 22nd Amendment and a term limit began in 1944 after presidential candidate Thomas Dewey warned a “16-year term for Roosevelt was a threat to Democracy.”

Roosevelt died while in office in 1945 and the 22nd Amendment was proposed by Congress in 1947. The Amendment reads, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some of other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.”

Cheney, who received a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1996, continued to throw barbs at Ocasio-Cortez and tweeted a video from “Schoolhouse Rock” that talks about the basics of the Constitution.

“Hey AOC, I know you’re busy so I thought this short would be helpful to introduce you to the basics of the Constitution. If you’re still trying to figure out how a bill becomes a law, they have a great video on that, too,” she wrote.

As of Tuesday morning, Ocasio-Cortez didn’t respond to Cheney’s latest tweet.

Reporter: Rep. Cortez, Do you think it's important for children to study Civics in school?

AOC: Yes. I think it's very important, but they shouldn't be limited to Civics. They should study other types of cars too.

<{danawhoah}>

Yes but when they where writing the amendment while he was in office he may have passed but he was alive when it was first discussed.

It's an amendment but thought like it seems to be applied here LOL..

FDR was very clearly the impetus for the legislation.

Maybe if you keep repeating it while crying into your pillow, it'll become true.

It’s already came true. More people are aware she’s a mean spirited vapid ignorant twat who is in love with herself.

I didn’t even need to use any wishes. It came true on its own.

AOC’s UNFAVORABLE NUMBERS SKYROCKET.

And the left wants to blame conservatives lol. Anyone with a brain knows her vast ignorance and outright stupidity is why nobody likes her.

Did you even read the article you posted. All it talked about was the efforts by Fox to destroy her. Then mention that 78 percent of Republicans view as unfavorable but 47 percent of Democrats view her as favorable 12 percent have no opinion on her.

She talked about her daytime job as a congress person an nighttime job as a boogeyman for the right. Her problem is Corporate media hidden in all this negativity is a new poll that shows her as hugely popular with people 16 to 24 years of age.

They especially like the Progressive movement with an 82 percent favorable rating. They have real world issues such as they are hugely against wars an they worry that Republicans will drag them into a situation where they are fighting for another war.

They worry about having a decent job an job security an they believe no one on the right is doing enough. The best part though is they don't believe cable news an get most of their news online.

It’s vox man. Super left. They try to blame her low numbers on conservatives. Rather than people just think she’s fucking dumb. And mean.

But doable. Wood.

I love it. This girl has conservatives fuming.

Funny shit.
Laughing, not so much fuming. She's doing such a poor job she's pushing the left back towards center so they can avoid her retardation.

I wanted to add Am

That does not explain why you posted it to make your case. Kinda like if I was posting a story that the green new deal was bad an linking something from Greenpeace.

I think I'll side with the opinions of experts (not AOC) over a rando on the internet. Extreme weather events that are beyond "normal" extreme weather events are absolutely because of climate change. I'm sure you were of the opinion that climate change is a hoax 10 years ago so forgive me if I don't defer to your opinion on the matter.

I lived 21 years in WI, the Mississippi floods regularly, as do all rivers in the Midwest, that’s why they are usually surrounded by swamps and backwaters. But when you develop that land where nature intended the flood waters to go, well, you get damage

I wonder...

is this because she is truly an incompetent politician with ridiculous ideas, or...if we continually told how incompetent and "stupid" she is and how "controversial" her ideas are.

I

That is actually a valid question.

But I think what stems from the whole "she is stupid as fuck" viewpoint is when she demonstrated that she didn't know what the 3 branches of government were.

That's where it all started.

Now she could've recovered from that and demonstrated that she had the ability to navigate through Washington and everything.

But it seems that whenever she tries to do it, what she says is so head-scratching and WTF'ing that it just adds to the "Jesus Christ, she's dumb" opinion.

And thus far, she has failed to dispel that image. {<shrug}

it's mind bending that this thread has almost 600 posts in it. She's a freshman congresswoman for god's sake.

As long as there's twitter and AOC has an account....

This thread will always be busy. <Moves>

And anyway, she gives us great material to put up in here.

Funny story.

What's the over/under on the creepy old Trump-worshiping incel here hitting 10,000 posts without:

A. Getting a girlfriend
B. Getting a respectable job (how the fuck are you on Sherdog every day you fucking bum)
C. Moving out of that shitty trailer park

I know you creepy white nationalist incels don't get to interact with women much, but....

Mean how? I don't see her resorting to the kinds of projection and ridicule that you uneducated right wing incels resort to.
60/40 that 10% of sherdog has been laid. And I'm 5% of that so...

She Twitter insults people all the time. She is snide. Like trump but not exactly like trump.

Calling people who disagree with her blatantly incorrect ideas “people shouting from the cheap seats”

And telling people she’s the boss now. She’s a newly elected congresswoman whose path to victory was having a Latina name on a ballot full of Latino people. She also went to college and was a bartender. We should all be in awe I’m sure.

Her ego is through the roof.
