Was reading through the Costco magazine today. It said the average annual cost of college is $46,000. How are kids supposed to pay for college these days? That's quite a hefty price tag for parents.

Doesn't the government give you study-assistant loans or anything?

At 11.5k per year it's not that outlandish to pay a decent percentage of it with a low skill job.

The same way everyone else pays for capital which will produce returns into the future. Debt.

They just need a job making 100k...then subtract 35k in taxes and around 20k for living expenses, and they'll have enough left for tuition.

This is a prime example of government getting involved in a sector and making it worse...government guaranteed loans translates to a license to print money for universities.

If enough dumbass kids wake up and stop going to these expensive schools and instead go to CC followed by state school then prices will come down.

does that include other costs outside of basic tuition?

transportation, a place to live, food, basic necessities, school materials, textbooks, computers.... etc?

I graduated without owing a dime... went to a community college and then to a state university that I could afford. It also helped that I had a job the entire time I was going through college.

I know people that have done it.

My brother went to school for commercial aviation. Out of pocket he paid around 30k, mostly for flight hours/private license from working at a car wash. He still has 90-100k worth of student loans but by working a job there is no reason you shouldn't be able to pay off a decent amount of that 10-12k per year.

Exactly. Take out some loans, work a little bit, then find a career after graduation and pay off the loans. You will still make more money over the course of your lifetime, much more, than most people with only high school diplomas.

Who lives on 20k a year living expenses? And how many people walk out school into a 100k job? You sound misinformed.

how they ever have time to do school work. And unless they get table server jobs, or bartender jobs at the hottest spots, they wont make enough money. I washed dishes at one of these places during college, so I did not get tips.

Plus these jobs are highly competitive. Many times these places prefer people not in college, because students are a pain to deal with.

    1. Take out loans if needed. They are low interest and there are a ton of ways to repay, BUT IF AND ONLY IF,
    2. You study something that can will lead to a career either directly after undergrad, or that will be a basis for grad school.

    46k for 4 years.

So if they put ALL the money they earn toward that they've barely made a dent in their overall debt.
