The commentary is truly unbearable now

The UFC commentary is awful and pushes agendas, but it is not unique in combat sports.

Boxing is often better than the UFC. Sometimes it is much, much worse where reality is completely distorted to protect the house fighter.

I very rarely watch boxing but I've watched a few times where I'm flabbergasted at the commentary. It can literally sound like one of the fighter's corner is doing the commentary lol.

DC interviewing Derrick Lewis in the ring: "All right Derrick, let's take a look at another knock out". Basically the word "knock out" has no meaning anymore in the UFC.

Whenever I watch I either play music or watch on español.

TS is spot on.

The financial investment in a particular fighter can just make broadcasters completely compromised.

And you also get the issue of nationalism, which can infest certain telecasts. Listening to British commentary in particular is like travelling to bizarro world.

These are less of a problem in the UFC.

But boxing also isn't a monopoly and has a far longer history of operating as a semi-legit sport covered by some serious people. So more objective dissenting voices can filter through too.

I have been watching on mute for at least two years, maybe even three.
Very good choice. Going on ten years for me. Made the mistake of tuning for the China card hoping to learn more about the fighters, then heard some lady’s hyperbolic simplicities and immediately turned it off. People complained about Goldberg back in the day but she sounded 10x worst talking about “aura” (wtf is that even in a fight??) and hyping up a fighter who promptly got ktfo. Never tuning into the commentary ever again.

I’m sick of the commentators being in house guys who just want to kiss Dana’s ass and promote the brand without actually telling the truth. If you watch any other sport, you have impartial commentary, people willing to be critical

UFC commentary has become like WWE. It feels scripted and contrived, like they’re afraid. They play it safe, and when they don’t, they don’t have enough charisma to make it work
I mean not really

In most sports commentators blow smoke up your arse and try and tell you that everything in their league is amazing

Take every EPL game for example

There are a lot of dogshit games played in that league, like any other, but you seldom hear it

For years now, I mute the broadcast and put on a Spotify playlist. Sometimes when the Spanish telecast is available, I'll put that on, and I don't know Spanish.
This is the best way to watch the fights.

I remember at one point ppl wanted Joe Rogan, Frank Mir, & Randy Couture to be a commentary team. Back when the news broke about Goldie dipping out.

Meanwhile, Mike Goldberg is calling fights with Paulie Malignaggi in BYB.

Get rid of Buffer and have Joe Martinez full time and then clear out the whole commentary crew and bring in some new guys. Sanko is terrible and just checks a box. Put her back to a sideline/backstage reporter.

They should bring in Shaq with his mumbling

Amen to this. Sanko goes to ring card girl. Then bring on Barkley too and Rogan between them sitting on a booster seat with a rope ladder to make him appear to be an adult and not some diseased make a wish kid.

UFC in Korean is fun too

The commentary is the least of the problems.

I’m concerned this actually a largely fake sport right now.

Like these “athletes” are more concerned with playing characters than training mma. They’re not training this sport. They’re training character stories. There’s something wrong here.

Honestly what bothers me most is how WMMA fights you have a olympic wrestler and former HW champion just sort of lie and pretend the girls have skill and it's an interesting fight. You know deep inside DC wants to correct all the amateur technique they are using.

I'll take commentator bias over lies and propaganda, as long as they actually believe what they are saying. That said, what they say doesn't influence my opinion and I can hear others without changing my own thoughts so it's sort of whatever. I've watched commentary in languages I don't know because I don't care about it enough compared to the fights. Bizarre how often commentary gets brought up here when the UFC has far worse things wrong.
