The Casting couch?

Bill Cosby recently was accused of rape by a former mentoree. It sounds like this was a classic example of the Hollywood myth/legend of the "casting couch". Basically the rumor is young starlets male and female, have to put out to receive parts in films.

Cory Feldman did an interview years back describing his sexual abuse by many Hollywood execs. He stated that the late Cory Haim's depression, drug abuse, and eventual suicide were do to their sexual abuse, and that the "casting couch" is real. So what's your thoughts? Have any of you experienced this while trying to make it in the movie, and music biz?

Do you believe in the whole put out, or get out "deal with the devil" myths that surround the movie and music industry? 60 Minutes did an interview years back with Bob Dylan. During the interview with Ed Bradley, Dylan stated that he had to keep singing, and could not retire because of the deal he made with "destiny". When further prodded, Dylan told Ed that the "Chief Commander of this world, and one you can't see" helped him attain success in the music biz".

It could have been Bob joking, but if you look at the interview bob was either being serious, or he has one hell of a poker face.

Are you suggesting Bob Dylan is victim to the casting couch?

The first half of your post i agree with.

The second half you're alluding to some supernatural bullshit.

i'm a lot less likely to believe it happens a lot now. with how easy it would be to gather evidence these days.

i think movie stars, at least the ones who got major roles and celebrity at an early age and then got uber drug fucked in adolescence/adult life are evidence of people trying to cope with the abuse, once they finally were able to rationalize it

see: John connor kid from T2 and the little kid from home alone, see how they are today

oh and miley cirus and all the other disney channel fucked up girls

Well that could also be cause of coming into a lot of money at a young age and having to deal with a lot of the bullshit that goes along with the fame and the microscope on yo.

Not being able to have a normal life as a kid, etc.

Doesn't mean they were all abused, doesn't mean some weren't either.

It must to have to suck **** to get a promotion.

I like the expression: Women will sleep their way to the top, men will sleep their way to the bottom!

I wasn't young or female enough for Dan

The casting couch is no doubt a metaphor for something that happens in the movie industry.

They have so MANY hot chick's that want to be a model or in the movies.

They're also real comfortable with giving it up. It's not inconceivable that a lot of the people would exploit this.

I went to school with a few people who have made a go at an acting career, and none of them have mentioned any casting couch stories to me. They've all been successful enough at it to make a comfortable living at it with small roles in film and TV. From what I've heard from them, the proverbial casting couch was probably much more of a problem 20 or 30 years ago; nowadays the majority of casting agents are female. There's also half a dozen people sitting around to watch your audition nowadays as well, rather than just one person. Also, it's supposedly becoming more and more common that everything in the audition room is recorded now, in an effort to cut down on any liability / harassment / assault / he said she said type things.

I agree with this... It's just asking for a lawsuit from a few scorned women who didn't get what they were promised in exchange for sexual favors on top of the negative media attention. Not to say it doesn't happen anywhere, but any agency that tries this is taking a big risk.

Hollywood is pretty corporatized these days and I doubt there's rampant rape and molestation going on like a lot of the rumors would suggest. You look at a guy like Dan Schneider and I find it hard to believe that he could bang every teenybopper on all of his shows like some people claim and not get sued into the ground and brought up on charges. I'm sure it was easier to get away with back in the days, though.

look at anyone of the multiple of talentless hacks getting work, they get work and fame because they are the biggest bitches out there basically, and im saying OZ style prison bitch, for example channing tatum, i will use one of the movies he is in for example:

remember the movie where another no talent fuckhead like seth rogan and his friends have a party and the world ends?, one if not the most telling scene is one where the kenny rogers freak comes out of a truck with channing tatum with a leash and he talks about how he just fucks him in the ass..... that is a "showbusinnes" inside joke i believe.

The first half of your post i agree with.

I'm not alluding to anything supernatural. all i'll say is watch the Dylan interview and draw your own conclusions.

Didn't every leading actress in a Steven Segall movie have to sleep with Segall to get the part. Pretty sure i read that somewhere. Don't feel like looking for it

I think it probably used to happen much more than we know of now.

It's too big of a risk with all the social media now, though. 20 years ago, you fuck a young wannabe and she tells a few people. Maybe a tabloid. So what?

Now, you can be viral in less than hour.

Corey Haim didn't commit suicide

As to the topic at hand, yeah I wouldn't be at all surprised if such a thing were a reality

There was some anonymous person writing online about all this type of stuff, and claimed that Hayden Panettiere was a child prostitute along with all this other crazy shit

Based on his info most were saying that he must be some sort of Hollywood insider, although that doesn't do anything to give credence to the sexual abuse claims. It actually became a popular theory that it was Robert Downy Jr. writing all of this

I just feel like this lady didn't get a part in the Cosby show and years later she's vexed about not being one of the extremely light skinned "Cosby kids". I think Bill is being silent because well he's married ,and doesn't want his "Americas dad" shtick besmirched. Or lose half his shite in a divorce.

Nailed it.
