- In the comics, Hughie is Scottish, Becca is English, Vogalbaum is a German Jew, A Train is white and The Deep is black, Stillwell and Mallory are both men.
- All the Boys except The Female and MM have taken Compound V, which is fairly well known in the comics. Hookers are shown snorting a mixture of V and cocaine to help them put up with the punishment they get when having sex with Supes, who are both much stronger than the average human and uncaring about damaging the girls.
The Compound V taken by the Boys - Hughie is actually injected with it by Butcher without his consent - is a pure strain which makes each of them, "about 15 to 20 times stronger", which according to Mallory, "puts you ahead of four out of five Supes". Indeed, when Vought run simulations of an all out fight between The Boys and the Seven, they find that while all the Boys are killed only Meave, Black Noir and Homelander himself are guaranteed to survive.
- The Female is Japanese; she fell into a vat of compound V while a baby - this is a piss take/homage of the Asterix and Obelix comics - when her mother took her to work at a company that was trying to rival Vought. She gained vast superhuman strength, but was abused for years as the scientists put her through painful experiments to try to replicate the process that created her. This meant she had zero emotional and social development, and behaved like a feral animal to anyone who approached her. The company were planning on executing her because she was so violent and regularly killed guards etc during numerous escape attempts.
- Mother's Milk; his mother had worked at a Vought factory and was contaminated with Compound V. One of the side effects was that MM was reliant on his mom's breast milk to survive even as an adult. He joined the Army Rangers, and his superhuman strength manifested itself for the first time during a boxing match he was losing badly. He hit his opponent with an uppercut that literally tore the man's head off. His mother has become so obese she cannot move, but MM still has to regularly visit her to get enough breast milk to survive(I'm very glad they cut this part from the show). Stillwell using the breast pump is probably a reference to this.
- The botched rescue on the plane happened on 9/11. The US government/military stopped all of the hijacked flights before they hit their targets, in one case the president himself giving a direct order to shoot down one of them before it can hit the Twin Towers,
"It's a civilian aircraft full of innocent people and, by the highest authority on God's earth, I'm ordering you to shoot it down. This is war, and in war we do terrible things. My call, Archer One".
When the Seven try to rescue the hostages, they not only fail to save them but cause the plane to crash on to the Brooklyn Bridge, causing massive casualties as well as damaging New York's economy. MM is actually. on the bridge when the plane crashes and tries to save a young woman in a car about to go over the side, only to see her ripped in half
- Hughie is much more passive. He kills his first Supe by accident when he's losing a fight and the Supe threatens to, "put your head through that wall!" which causes Hughie to flash back to how Robyn died. Panicking, he punches the Supe and puts his fist right through his stomach. From then on he's terrified of hurting people, using his super-strength only when absolutely necessary. He's also unaware that Annie is Starlight, and reacts very badly when he finds out.
Contrast this with the show, where Hughie makes a cold-blooded decision to kill Translucent, although he later feels some guilt when he finds out Translucent had a son. Butcher calls him a, "killer, just like the rest of us".
- Butcher in the comics is much more sinister. He's completely in control of his emotions for the most part. Whereas Urban's version of Butcher is clearly pissed off most of the time, the comic book Butcher is usually very good natured and charming. He only lets the mask slip when something really pushes his buttons. He's incredibly manipulative, even of his friends like MM and Hughie. His backstory reveals he was a border-line psychopath even as a child, partly because his father was a piece of shit who regularly beat his mother; it's implied that one of the few things Butcher feared is that he would end up like his father. At one point, after his father blinded his mother in one eye, Butcher planned to knife him to death and had to be stopped by his younger brother.
Butcher joined the Royal Marines and fought with distinction in the Falklands, being severely wounded during a battle that saw the rest of his mates killed and Butcher bayonet several Argentinians to death. He was later dishonourably discharged for fighting and injuring several fellow Marines.
Butcher continued to be extremely violent in civilian life, picking fights while drunk. It was meeting Becca that turned him around. He stopped drinking and for the first time in his life enjoyed a healthy, loving relationship. When she was murdered, Butcher became obsessed with revenge at any cost. His ultimate endgame is to kill every single person on the planet who has Compound V in their system, including the Boys and himself.
