What is it and why should you care?

As of now there's not much known about Dawnbreaker, other than its a narrative RPG set in a dark fantasy medieval world, and there's vampires... lots of vampires.

But what we do know about it is who's working on it... alot of CDPR's leadership positions for Witcher3 & Cyberpunk2077.

"Tomaszkiewicz directed The Witcher 3 and served multiple roles during Cyberpunk's development, including vice president of game development, secondary game director, and head of production. Tomaszkiewicz left CDPR under allegations that he bullied coworkers. He was later found not guilty but had already begun working at the Warsaw Film School. He will act as the new studio's CEO and Game Director."

"Szamałek was the principal writer on CP 2077 and senior writer on most of The Witcher 3's DLC. He will serve Rebel Wolves as the uNarrative Director. He left CDPR around the same time as Tomaszkiewicz and in the interim worked as a narrative consultant and freelance video game writer."

Art Director for Witcher1-3, Bartłomiej Gaweł, has also joined Rebel Wolves.

Animation Director Tamara Zawada, who also was the animation director for Witcher3.

Other bits of info -
*Dawnbreaker is being developed with Unreal Engine 5.
*Rogue Wolves formed in early 2022, and their third anniversary is quickly approaching, so Dawnwalker is been in full production for quite a while.
*The total development team, as of May 2024, is only 90 people.
*January 13th will be when Rogue Wolves will reveal much more about the game.

I'm intrigued. What about you guys?

Nice. I saw the teaser trailer a few days ago but didn't know much about who from CDPR are involved. Sounds like we're in good hands with the first two guys. Looking forward to learning more about it.

I hope CDPR has key talent on hand for the Witcher 4 still. I know a few important people behind Cyberpunk are working on the sequel at the Boston studio, so I'm excited about that.

Too early to get too excited about, but its certainly something I WANT to get excited about. Like I said before, Im not big on cinematic game reveals. But at least they promised some gameplay and core design philosophies.

It's all fun and games with vampires until we get to the butt stuff.

This is what I'm thinking... mostly speculation here.

The title 'The Blood Of The Dawnwalker' implies a few things. 'Dawnwalker' is probably the player character and that implies you're probably not a pure vampire but one who can walk in sunlight.
There's a day & night cycle with gameplay consequences for if you're playing during the day or night.

And since it's a medieval-fantasy title with alot of the Witcher3 crew working on it, picture Geralt + Blade = Your Character.

The publishing deal with Bandai-Namco means they just got alot of additional development money to expand their personel from 90 to.... more to make this an actual Triple-A game which they claim this title will eventually be.
Keep in mind Witcher3's development budget was only $90 million.

Lots of questions to be answered, like how far they are into development and a possible release window.

Three more days.
Really hope the entire presentation isn't just a preendered trailer.

I think there's no question it'll be mostly pre rendered. Their announcement said something like "the reveal trailer plus a glimpse of gameplay and design elements". So I figure it'll be the intro cinematic and some dev talking head vignettes about design elements, maybe mixed with some footage here and there.

Remember, these are people that split off from CDPR, who always reveal their products by trailer a ridiculous amount of time in advance. My guess is the game is nowhere near done.

Well said. Hope this is good. They had an awesome established story in the Witcher, let us see what they can do with original material.
Still, no pre-orders!

I hate CGI trailers only, but it is great teaser for what's to come. Gameplay reveal coming this summer. Love the main vampire's voice and the music. Hopefully we get to make our own character though. Protagonist looks meh if the guy at the end is him.

As far as reveals go, pretty disappointing. Maybe theres more to come today, but I thought there was gonna be discussion of design elements too.

First impression is a Witcher 3 cake with some vampire icing over the top of it. Thats a cool combo. Gameplay reveal 6 months off can suck a bag of dicks, though.

Hope its good. Could be, but my hype level is less than it was yesterday.

Yeah, I thought they were going to do some sit down thing and discuss various elements like CDPR loves doing.

A gameplay reveal in mid-2025 for a game that probably won't be released until mid-to-late 2026 is actually quite reasonable.

Unfortunately these types of games are marketed over years to attract investor money, and given Bad Wolves is just starting up and is a fraction of the size of CDPR that is quite reasonable.

I liked the trailer. Vampires have some original abilities that look closer to biomancy than stereotypical vampirism. I like the details I've seen. i will be waiting for gameplay trailer with interest.

I’m very enthusiastic toward that trailer. Indeed , let see how it plays out.

Very reminiscent of the vampires from Witcher 3's Blood & Wine DLC.

Hopefully more YouTubers will cover this.

I do not remember Witcher's high vampires manipulating people's blood from a distance and curing them from bubonic plague.
These vampires do not seem stereotypical and I quite like it.
Presumed power levels and getting stronger with age? Involvement in politics? Yes, similar, you're right.

'Very reminiscent' in style, to be more specific.

Yes. And seemingly they, too, can somewhat morph their appearance.
It will be interesting to see what political factions will be present in the game, too, and how will their attitude towards vampires differ.
