The Anime and Manga Thread v48

who is your fav fighter? I love the Orge but Other than him, I like Hanayma and Doppa the best.

hanayma is a pure gangster who is just a brute of a fighter

And Dorlen is the definition of a fighter and understands there is nothing else but life or death in a fight. No rules or imagination of Honor, just the guy that walks away.

Hanayama is my favorite because he is somewhat the most normal in a group of abnormal people. He isn't a martial artist. He doesn't even train regularly. He is just a giant 18 year old with a kung fu grip. Yujiro is like the Kool Aid man. He just crashes through the wall when it is time to fk stuff up.

Biscuit is the funniest character to me. He is very intelligent and most jacked dude in America. He still lives in a prison and simps over a morbidly obese white chick.

Goddamn it, didn’t realize JJK is on a break until the end of the month.

Loved the latest arc. Easily one of the best so far.

Cool I gave Tatami galaxy a try a year or two ago but couldn’t get into it. To be fair it was like 20 minutes into the first episode and I was high as shit. I’ll give it another try sometime around. I also didn’t know demon slayer was written by a woman

Tatami Galaxy plays around with animation and a sort of episodic storytelling, and is therefore rather hit or miss. Personally I found it fine, but it's certainly no favorite of mine. Uchouten Kazoku is more normal with both animation and storytelling. Also way better characters in my opinion.

Asura Scans has now moved to its third domain in less than a month, and the most recent one looks sketchy as hell. Guess I'll have to update my bookmarks to go through aggregators, I'm not risking their site anymore. Which sucks because I follow like 20 of their scanlations.

the depiction of Gojo's state of mind and mentality as his powers awoken was so smart. nuanced characters, blurred lines between "good" and "evil", all fantastic writing. Good enough that I don't even mind and kind of actually enjoy the cliche camp and fan service.

Need a new anime to watch? Any suggestions?
I was thinking of catching up on my hero academia, or watching to your eternity season 2. Really liked the first one. Also spy x family season 2. Idk so many options not enough time.
Also is the new from slayer done yet?
to your eternity is a fresh very unique anime with super complex and heavy themes. Highly recommended from me. I'm not a huge shonen guy but I also absolutely love HxH even though it can feel like a bit of a slow burn. Yu Yu Hakusho is a great bingeable classic if your looking for some nostaglia. Vinland saga and Castlevania are both solid modern options if youre into more adult content with western influence.

Anyone know a good website to buy manga from? Other than amazon, the selection there is somewhat limited.

Speaking of Yu Yu Hakusho, I really want this shirt!

Oh great, now that I've updated all my links to it turns out some dinks from another group are sniping uploads with partial chapters and demands to visit their sites for the full chapter. How delightful.

Anyone else reading Touge Oni? What's left to the next volume release, maybe six months or so? Well, I hope; might very well be even more. If anyone has any recommendation to something of similar quality that would certainly be appreciated. After all these years I feel that I have seen most of what have been translated to English and is of the highest quality, but I know that there is still gems that I have missed or overlooked.

Anyways, Touge Oni is set in ancient Japan, following and a monk and his two child-disciplines on their journey where they commonly encounter the gods that dwell in the land. Absolutely breathtakingly good art, some of the very best I have ever enjoyed in manga, and the scenarios and concepts are likewise as good as they come. Good characters also; not as great, but still very, very good. The scope of the story could be grander (in terms of adding more characters and their interactions; the stake of the story is as epic as it gets), but that's mostly my personal preference, I suppose. Strongest of recommendations.

Now when I think about it, Made in Abyss would be the one manga that I would compare it to. If for no other reason than the highly dedicated craftsmanship they both exude, though they have their similarities especially in atmosphere; Touge Oni lacking the perversion however.

Sounds a bit like a series that I cannot for the life of me remember the name of. It's a scientist/doctor dude who goes around cataloguing supernatural creatures. It's very laid back slice-of-life sort of thing. If memory serves it's got a one word title. It was popular around here like...six years ago. I'm sure somebody's got to know what I'm talking about.

EDIT: AHA! Found it! Mushishi.

I wasn't here, so I wouldn't know, but shouldn't it be closer to 10 or even 15 years than 6? Either way, that's nostalgic; it was something I read at my very beginning of my love of manga. I remember very little honestly, though the impression of the atmosphere still lingers.

Any good recommendations for webtoons for someone that, in all honesty, don't really like the medium all that much, but has been engrossed in The Tower of God and did enjoy Crepuscule just a bit? Boichi has started a new manga, Super String: Marco Polo's Travel to the Multiverse, and it has a webtoon form. Not much to say about it as of now, only chapter 0 and 1 having been translated, but the art is absolutely gorgeous as expected.

I think the anime was coming out and renewed interest, I don't really remember the specifics.

There was a period of about five years where if I was asked, "What's the best ongoing action shonen?" I would have said Tower of God without hesitation. Unfortunately that's no longer the case; the last couple arcs weren't all that great. I still read it every week, but it's not reaching the same highs. As for other webtoons to suggest, here's a bunch. They've all got large action components but have a variety of settings:
Eleceed
The Lazy Lord Masters the Sword
Teenage Mercenary
Hero Killer
Omniscient Reader
Return of the Blossoming Blade
The World After the Fall
The Ember Knight
I'm also going to recommend Solo Leveling with the caveat that the series totally faceplants at the end. The last ~20 chapters are borderline terrible and took an A series to a C. But it could still be worth give a shot because the first ~85% really is very good.

I wish Netflix had more Anime as ridiculously rewarding as Baki Hanma

Bro. I understand the appeal to guys. I have been watching it as well. But you have to admit it's such silly childish cringe nonsense. I ask myself why I waste the time watching it but I still do lol.

I am having a ball watching it. It is like animated Japanese pro wrestling.
