The Anime and Manga Thread v48

GACHIAKUTA

This is one of the pleasant surprise this Summer anime season. It's the typical action power fantasy series but at least set in a unique world. Not saying it's awesome (yet) but eight episodes in, it's alright. The best thing about it is the animation is consistently high quality. The artwork reminds me from My Hero Academia with its big, bold ink lining.

I tried watching the 1st episode when it first came out. The hype is strong, but it was shonen af. I had to stop around 10 mins in. I'll come back to it eventually. I have a soft spot for female mangakas who do shonen stuff.

I keep getting YT and Facebook ads pushing an audio book called My Vanpire System on PocketFM.
Has anyone checked it out? Is it worth it?

It's got a webtoon that I tried and it was...just awful.

You didn’t do the book though?

Still the best choreographed fight scenes I think I've ever seen. Rarely cluttered with thought bubbles or narration and each move flows in a way you just don't see in most series (All Rounder Meguru may be the only other I can think of with that level of position-to-position fidelity).

Will check. Is the main plot/sub plots any good? All Rounder Meguru was the first manga I waited on.

*nvm. I read the synopsis. I'm a sucker for revenge plots.

I had a 4 hour gap between appointments in another town, so I went and saw the new Demon Slayer film on a whim. I'm really glad I did, it was fantastic. It looks and sounds stunning and really shone on the big screen. Hopefully, they have part 2 ready next Summer.

Just watched it with my girl. Shit was way better than expected. I heard it’s about 2 years in between movies, just so it’s not rushed and the animations good or whatever

The time travel anime sub-genre has proliferated over the years. It's like the new isekai. I enjoy both sub-genres. So I checked out The Regressed Mercenary Has a Plan on a whim and I really enjoyed it and ended up reading the whole 42 "episodes" (should be called "issues") in one day. You are right, the fight choreography is very impressive and well thought out. The story doesn't bring anything unique but it's just done so well, same with the characters. So thanks for the recommendation.

I hope that if there's an anime adaptation, they'll get a good studio to make it. I've watched a lot of decent (guilty pleasure) isekai, time travel anime that had poor animation.

Take for example the new anime series this summer season, New Saga. I'm enjoying the show so far and it's well told story-wise (for this type of anime) but the animation is just so poor that nobody will bother watching it. Wished this got the Wistoria treatment.

Clevatess almost suffered the same fate but the quality picked up in the later episodes. Some awful animations here and there but generally, its gotten better.

Yeah. The action scenes were done well. I tried to judge it by Escort Warrior's standards. It is better. Escort warrior is still my goat for murim/political intrigue/PTSD genre.

Speaking of Clevatess (one of my highlights this summer season), I love the ending song. No wonder it's top quality cuz it's sung by Ellie Goulding. She's a famous singer who sang "Love Me Like You Do", "Burn" and "Lights".

Another great ending song is Kaiju No. 8 season 2's "Beautiful Colors" sung again by OneRepublic.

One of the surprising good opening song this season is from Uglymug, Epicfighter.
