The Anime and Manga Thread v48

I dont even think it's on that tier, maybe it gets better? The characters are bland and if you want to watch some assassins' stuff, The Fable has a similar story and at the same point of progression, I thought it was way better.
Hard to say. So far it's not bad.

I bought the box set for the officially licensed English release of The Breaker. I'm disappointed; the quality of the localization is not great. There's been a bunch of editing errors so far (improperly placed text a few times, and even a blatantly swapped pair of speech bubbles) and the translation is inconsistent (sometimes names are left in Korean, sometimes they get an English translation) and makes some weird choices (calling Gomoonryong "Nine-Door Dragon" instead of "Nine-Arts Dragon").

The same company is releasing New Waves now, but I'm not going to buy it until it's all out and available as a discounted set.

Poor man's Gintama. Coincidentally, Gintoki and Sakamoto have the same va in Sugita.

Solo Leveling season 2 is the best anime this winter anime season by a huge margin. It's the only anime this season that I am eagerly excited to watch each week. All the other anime this season are enjoyable, lighthearted entertainment.

I'm watching Dandadan, got through 9 episodes in two days. It's super unpredictable, the author has a great imagination. It also leans towards tropes but then subverts them. I'm liking the budding friendship between the main girl and guy, which actually feels realistic.

I saw The Fable mentioned. That has maybe the most realistic character-writing out there. The author's an older person and it shows. Hilarious and suspenseful, but I also like how it encourages valuing normal things in life, that the assassins haven't experienced before. It was also very cool to read it during lockdown, since the sequel takes place in the pandemic.

it’s such an incredibly good show. I went out and purchased the light novels set a couple weeks ago because I was so enthralled by the story. I have never purchased any light novels for an anime in the past but I quite literally can’t get enough of Solo Leveling and since this winter season is filled with trash (with the exception of the aforementioned) I’ve opted to just read through the books before bed as opposed to watching any of the other anime seasons that are currently running.

Can't wait until it's done. Going to rewatch season 1 just before it finished and then go straight into season 2.

Solo leveling is amazing, not many serious anime’s but there is another one that’s really good this season, “about the movement of the earth”. Some weird name, it’s like vindland saga style of astronomy. Sounds oddball, but i think it’s an amazing show.

Orb movements of earth is solid as well good call. I’m like 5 episodes in I always forget about the anime’s running on Netflix I have to go back and catch up. Thanks sherbro.

@JBSchroeds

Hey JBS. I know I only pop up every few YEARS now, but I can't recall if I rec'd a certain manga, Medalist to you and what your thoughts were. Was hoping to get your thoughts on it if you were up to date since the most recent chapters have most DEFINITELY sparked a lot of discussion to say the least.

I read the first volume but unfortunately didn't much care for it. The emotions were all so over-the-top that I had a hard time taking it seriously. IIRC in the chapter where I dropped it the kid cried like three separate times. I liked the premise and the art was nice, but the whole 'ugh, is she crying again??' was too much for me.

Fair. Kind of bummed since I'd love to have gotten your take on the recent chapters, but explaining it like this doesn't do justice to the build-up and context.

Does the MC from I parry everything ever stop being so dumb? The show seems pretty good but the guy is so dumb and unaware of how strong he is that it's kind of killing the show for me.

Most Shonen MCs are dumb. You need some seinen in your life to balance the stupid tropes you have to endure.

That was my complaint as well. I found his ignorance tiring around episode 4 or 5.

That ending song in season one always worried me because it kinda implied that this is not real or this is just a video game simulation. (no spoilers please) And the multiple glitches, the directives, the voices the NPC hears, they all point to that conclusion or something of that kind.
