The Anime and Manga Thread v47

They could've hired interns from art colleges instead of full-time assistants if price is the only thing that prohibits them from getting help.
Lol they have loads of assistants, the Manga industry and Anime industry use interns and don't care when they burn out and quit, because they know there will be another freshfaced intern waiting for their big chance and the cycle continues.
"Mashima had six assistants in 2008 that worked in an 8,000 sq. feet area with seven desks, as well as a sofa and TV for video games. He revealed his schedule for Fairy Tail was script and storyboards on Monday, rough sketches the following day, and drawing and inking Wednesday through Friday. The weekend was for Monster Hunter; working on a quarter of the story each weekend and finishing by the end of the month. In 2011, he stated that he worked six days a week, for 17 hours a day" I would be surprised if Hiro Mashima is around for his 60s lol

It's just a hug @Crazy Librarian

It's not money that is the issue for shonen artists. The slave labor can't even go to work until the main artist finishes the storyboard and draft. It has to through an editor. If they don't like it then you gotta redo the whole thing.

I think the guys who move on from pen and paper to tablet drawing are doing much better. It isn't as back breaking but the art is too clean looking. Hand drawn looks better. Chainsaw man is digital. It isn't bad but you see mistakes in the manga. I believe they reuse assets or draw characters to superimpose in a background. You see the characters sitting in a car behind the windshield but the wipers are behind them. Hand drawn has mistakes too but it's more of a they don't want to redraw it thing. Old school Dragonball Z had extra fingers or one arm longer than the other.

I liked the way Chainsaw man looked so I'm cool with that. What about DemonSlayer or Jui Jitsu kaison

I didn't see/read the manga for those. I am assuming all the new guys are digital. There might be some that hand draw part of it on pen and paper then upload to a computer to finish layering it. Here is an example of partially digital. https://www.otaquest.com/kentaro-miura-interview-duranki-berserk/

The fairy tale artist switched from analog to digital. He draws only 4 days a week now instead of putting in 17 hour days. He works on two projects at the same time. He is the exception though. He is fast in terms of analog drawing too. He has enough time to even have a youtube channel where he speed runs his art.

Good shit. I've been using drawing tablets for 15yrs I tend to forget that some might still be using g-pens.

As somebody whose reading now consists almost entirely of webtoons,
What do you think about the possibility of the Hyoudou Pair breaking up? And was this the first time Tatara talks about his mother, and the reason why he doesn’t tell his dad? I’d have to check the earlier chapters, but it makes sense why he believes his dad would disapprove.
With the uneven release schedule I have a bitch of a time remembering exactly what happened in previous chapters. Wasn't the break up foreshadowed already? I wasn't really shocked by the reveal, and don't know if its because it had been hinted at, or if it was just the kind of development that makes you think 'yeah, I could see that.'

I think that was the first we've heard of his mother. Strange to me that dad would be the one with custody (I don't remember her being dead), but maybe that's just a Japan vs US culture thing.

@JBSchroeds

Latest Northern Blade Chapter was way too short, just like last week's, artists have a bad habit of ending on a cliff hanger recently hopefully the next ones show the whole battle and it isn't drug out.

Demon Slayer manga was hand drawn. As it got more popular the manga got more post processing during the scanning phase, but it remained hand drawn.

Edit: Fun fact the greatest Anime Movie of all time "A Silent Voice" all characters were hand drawn through the entire film. The majority of backdrops are hand drawn but to help with time and costs they did use some digital tech mainly for the fireworks scene.
