The Anime and Manga Thread v47

Watch the 2001 anime too? Or should just start with the 2016? Does the anime have Ali Jr and his fat wife? That is the most hilarious part I wanna see.
2001 story is somewhat normal battle anime. It is when he was 13 and learning how to fight. It's a lot of backstory. If you just want to start with the crazy arcs I think death row convict is the beginning of it. It's when Baki turns 17 so we started seeing more adult themes and weirdness.

Baki the grappler arc isn't normal though. This dude is like 14 year old middle schooler.

Hahahaahah. that's hilarious. I can't wait till I see Ali Junior

I never got into Baki cause from some pages I've read and some anime clips, it just seems like mindless fighting. But after reading you guys previews, I might see it now cause it seems hilarious hahahah. Should I watch the anime or read manga?
Watch it if you love golden showers.

Ali Junior is a simp. The big black guy is Oliva. Baki 2018 is when the madness starts I guess. Baki season 1 and 2 is weird as shit too but it just pales in comparison to the 3rd season onward. I understand people can get turned off by Baki because it really is over the top.

What??? You think the author is racist because they didn't have a white character as #1 or #2 bad guy? This take is a bit odd. There were white villains. People who fight and then get written out as less important is the nature of that type of writing. A big bad comes and loses. He then jobs to other big bad and get a little respect with other wins. Olivia will become less relevant as the series progresses.
No, you're just putting words in my mouth
If you're familiar with Baki manga the author is just blatant japanese nationalist and have kinda clear nationality "hierarchy" in his mind... but again, by itself does'nt bother me, USA did the same for years and nobody was ever much outraged lol

As said only problem i have with it is that it just cripple his ability to create something with more variety, where strong fighters from all corners of the world will scrap in clash of styles... actually old tournaments been like that a bit more, even if foreigners were still mostly used as jobbers.

If you watch current top10 in Baki entire WORLD, what's like?
Probably something like

Yujiro <- japanese
Musashi <- japanese
Kaku Kaiou <- chinese
Baki <- japanese
Pickle <- prehistoric man
Jack <- half-japanese (the stronk half!)
Doppo <- japanese
Oliva <- american
Goki <- japanese
Sukune <- japanese

And if we go on, next 5 are like all japanese
<36>

Again, does'nt bother me and i enjoy Baki manga but would be waaay better if author just let his frustrations go and build the action around world being big and full of capable fighters

I mean... Kengan, or to pick vg examples Street Fighter or Tekken are all still pretty into "Japan stronk, stronkest than everybody!", but still they do much more effort to drop in many strong foreign fighters

Ewww, wtf. What type of MC only smile when another man piss on him. This is already weirder than what I anticipate.

It’s so much better, imo. I lost respect for the creator of Baki for what he did to Muhammad Ali with his fictional son. Fuck em. At least Akira Toriyama is correcting his flaws by making Goten’s potentially romantic partner black and not draw her and other black characters in an offensive way.

It was great arguing during lunch at school back in the day over Mr Popo being black or not.

Trigun Stampede ep3 was bonkers. Kudos to the animation team. I've mentioned a couple of times my daughter who hates anything shonen, just straight up blurted that the series is an easy 10/10 for her. We're only just 3 eps in. Art and story is just amazing. I'm saving ep4 for tomorrow.

I watched the first episode, why is the frame rate so choppy?

It's 3d and less choppy that the last spiderman animated film. I think they're going for that low-frame look. Maybe I got used to it that it's actually smooth for me.

How dare you, they butchered an amazing classic.

Apparently it's done on purpose and called limited frame animation. But it reminds me of that stupid Adam Sandler animated movie. Like the older reporter drinks his flask in slow motion or something.

Frame rate in traditional animation varies, sometimes even between different elements of the same sequence. It's typically called 'animating on ones' 'twos' or 'threes', for how long a frame is held. So for a 24fps sequence, animation on ones is every frame is a new drawing, twos gets you 12 drawings, and threes is just 8. Elements that aren't being redrawn, such as a scrolling background, can still be done on ones even when other elements are one twos. Animating on twos is very common. Even Akira, where much of it is animated on ones, still has parts that are done on twos. The reason 3D stuff looks so weird when animated on twos is because we're so used to it being done at 24fps, or even higher for video games. Rendering it out on twos is an intentional stylistic choice in these cases, and it clashes with expectations, making things look cheep or jerky when a hand drawn version of the same thing might not. The opposite effect, where things run at a higher frame rate than expected, is experienced as the "soap opera effect" and is responsible for keeping higher FPS video out of the cinema.

I don't notice it at all though with Attack on Titan.

Did you watch the original? It was big in America but non existent in Asia so the changes to the character design is considered a war crime.

Based on your stellar reviews, I will give it a shot now.

I am judging by what I see on the internet and their responses. The anime changed how he looked, his gun and his costume. Based on your stellar reviews, I will give it a shot now.
Nonexistent in Asia? I remember watching it in late 90's, early 00's. Never religiously though.

I would still watch this from time to time if I I'm bored:
