The Anime and Manga Thread v47

Recently went to an anime meet-up. Was introduced/realized there might be some goods shoujo out there, whereas shounen has kind of dried up (very few of the good ones I haven’t read)

Nodame Cantabile is a good one to check out (technically Josei, but meh, whatever, close enough). Ran and the Grey World is another that is technically a seinin but probably could have been published in a josei or shoujo mag. I feel like there's a couple other decent ones I've read but can't remember at the moment (shoujo's not the kind of thing I actively search out, but I'll try almost anything that gets recommended to me).

EDIT: Sasameki Koto is another series that's girly and romantic but technically a seinin.
EDIT2: Chihayafuru. Another series that's a josei but shares a lot of the stylistic trappings of a shoujo.

Plenty of people saying they like Chainsaw man. Is it similar to jujitsu kaisen? Which anime would you compare it to?

I just don't like how he looks like with that head of his lol.

I think it's pretty much the same deal just instead of a school they're at work lol.

A bit corny, probably one of the weaker gundam shows for sure

CSM is sort of generic shonen like JKK but it also got some stuff that makes it unique. JKK got this everyone got a sad backstory thing going on. You tend to empathize with the JKK characters. You don't really get this with CSM characters.

I didn't read the CSM manga but it seems like everyone is a bit fucked up in the CSM story. The hero will let civilians die but he will save a cat that he has no real attachment to. The protagonist just wants to touch boobies and eat food. Devils, cats and human life are all the same to him. The supporting characters aren't much better either. They all seem like sociopaths.

I haven't seen JJK, so I can't really say anything in that regard. The best analogy I can think of is, imagine Quentin Tarantino made a shonen anime, and then that anime had a baby with Neon Genesis Evangelion.

The anime hasn't gotten to it yet, but CSM is full of sad backstories. Also, it becomes less and less like a generic shonen as it goes on. Be really careful to avoid spoilers

Thanks. I’ve already read Nodame Cantabile, but haven’t heard of the other three. I’ll check them out very soon.

One Piece: RED

Animation wise this pales in comparison to Strongworld , Gold or Z. There were some hype moments but too many times the Animation looked like when the Anime has sub par episodes.

This was kind musical Feature for Ado who pretty much sings every song.

Film is mostly fan service though, RED Haired Pirates were unleashed, and we saw Luffy in Gear 5 parallel to Shanks.

Really depends on what you're looking for. Romcom, SoL, drama, etc. Some good starters are Ore Monogatari, Love Complex, Oh My Sweet Alien I don't remember where it fit, but like Ran and the Grey World also has a very shoujo look and feel. Ironically both were recs from me to JBS Eons ago. I also second Chihayafuru.

Nana is a very good drama so that's another good one.

Thanks. Interesting. Haven't watched any of the movies in ages so I might need to sit and marathon these some day.

@JBSchroeds Mercenary Enrollment 109 is out on Luminousscans , also look like either today or tomorrow Legen of the Northern blade returns, they posted a return date of November 6th but it isn't out just yet.

Edit . Northern Blade Returns November 29th.

I ran into a younger chick and she started talking about anime. I realized I am not a real anime person. I am more of a normie when it comes to anime. I saw pictures of her room and I was like wtf this is some internet stuff. I saw pillows and posters of anime stuff.

Yeah I feel the same way about a ton of the stuff. Like yeah I'll own some figures, posters, and shirts(even then mostly gaming stuff), but some people take their weebness too far.

Forgot to mention. You people need to read and watch Shadows House and the authors previous work Kuro. Peak Gothic horror and creepiness.
Some other recs to make are Asebi and the Adventures on the Sky World, Witch Hat Atelier, and Akane-Banashi.

Atom The Beginning is also amazingly good.

Looking forward to the return. Hope it comes back strong after the break.

It dawned on me that I hadn't read Vinland Saga in a very long time. Pretty sure I was waiting on weekly releases during the Farmland Saga last time I read it. Guess I'll catch up on that.
