The Anime and Manga Thread v46 [OLD THREAD]

Well a lot happened in OPM that deviated from the webcomic.

My thoughts. SPOILERS.

In the webcomic everyone knew Saitama beat Garou, in the new timeline no one knows except Genos including Saitama. I guess it was a little unrealistic he wouldn't have gotten the S class promotion for beating Garou regardless of context so this makes more sense.

In the webcomic Amai Mask seeing Saitama beat up Garaou sets up another future arc and now he doesn't know so I don't know how that's going to change the story.

Also curious if Genos might get time travel powers cause Garou teaching Saitama those powers(which he's now forgotten)are now ingrained in his memory.

Another thing I've always wondered is how they're going to portray Saitama wanting revenge against Tornado which I've always felt is kinda OOC for him. Saitama was kinda egging the blizzard group on to kill Tornado in the webcomic and I feel that's really out there given the lengths he goes to to not kill humans. Even if he was mad at her for destroying his apartment(damm he really loved that place) that always felt odd.

Gotta wonder how much Oda gets for copies sold, let alone the anime. Seems like a lot of scratch.

The synopsis should have made that clear to you. Try some of the below and see if anything changes.

Chainsaw Man I know you mentioned not being into, but I want your thoughts into.

My Dress-Up Darling is 100% not in your wheelhouse, but I am curious as to your thoughts on it since it seems like the next big thing.

Ditto for Kaguya-sama which is already a big thing.

To tell the naked truth, regardless of how many people watch the film or how much the gross earnings are, not a single yen goes to the author. We are only paid an upfront license fee. The amount we’re paid is peanuts in comparison to the overall box office gross. The majority of the profits go to filthy unscrupulous companies such as Shueisha and Sunrise. Releasing individual manga volumes is way more profitable.


But the reason why I slog to fulfill these film adaptations, to the extent that I’m peeing blood, is because there is a place in this world that is more wonderful than a mansion at Roppongi Hills. And that place, ma’am, is in your heart.


If Gintama can reach the hearts of the masses, I wouldn’t mind living in a hill made of cardboard. The authors are the only ones who harbour such honest intentions with their creations.


So ma’am, if you’re feeling sorry for us, don’t just watch the movies, but also buy our books so that we can live at Roppongi Hills with the publishing royalties.

I'm basing this off Bakuman, but mangakas get flat rate(probably negotiable) when they're signed with a publishing company. Royalties kick in when the tankobon gets published.

I thought Chainsaw Man started out decent, but went off the rails really quickly. Drunk lady puking in MC's mouth was the moment I checked out.

I've heard of Kaguya-sama, didn't care for the premise so haven't tried it. I'll add it to the list anyways.

Had not heard of My Dress-up Darling, but the wikipedia plot synopsis actually does sound like it could be intriguing. I like making stuff [EXAMPLE], and while I may not cosplay, I do appreciate the craftsmanship involved.

It is a wholesome show then they add the adorable little girl to it. It is easy to digest and suitable for everyone. It is a show that checks a lot of the boxes and it will sell a ton of merchandise. I saw a couple of episodes of it. It's not anything extraordinary but it's fun.

Anya is the cute little girl.
Mom is the best Waifu
Dad is the pretty lead

Anime in general is made to sell merchandise. Anime used to be somewhat different. Some stuff we liked in the west wasn't big at all in Japan. It's starting to change because internet and social media. We are getting the same anime series drops almost the same time. Japan is still old fashion where people still buy CDs, books, merchandise and watch terrestrial TV. They have collabs with clothing and popup cafes. Every season there is the new hot show for them. Spring was demon slayer and I don't think the story is great. It is super popular though. My friend's grandmother watches it in Japan.

So the putting bounties on Marines seems like a Crocodile idea. Guessing next chapter involves Momo transforming into a dragon and flying to say goodbye to the Strawhats with Kinemon and we'll finally find out of Yamato is going to be a crew member.

It's not bad but it's more like an anime sitcom. The story doesn't really move fast. They establish a main goal and it moves slowly towards it. Some episodes have nothing to do with the goal. It is a really easy watch.
 
Spy x Family is...complicated. It takes place in an alt-Berlin during the Cold War and uses a LOT of tropes associated with fiction of that era. Spies, assassins, secret organizations, weaponized science. It's basically something like Cyborg 009 or its counterpart 009-1 mixed with a wholesome domestic SoL manga. It has it's moments of comedy, fluff, and whatnot sandwiched between reminders that it's Cold War Era Berlin expy involving people who had to live through some VERY bad times and developed some Golden Kamuy tiers of violent and subterfuge skills to make it.

Kaguya-sama is hard to explain since it's two very competitive geniuses trying to make the other confess. There's some other stuff about family drama involving the girsl family that I'm not sure...actually I can all but guarantee you won't like or care for it, but I still would love your input(FOR THE TEAM JBS!!).

That Chainsawman stuff just sounds super repugnant and gross and further makes me wonder how/why the fuck this got so big. The author released a one-shot that got rave reviews even from other manganka, frankly I kind of got it and found it...average...that and fucking weird.

Dress-up Darling exploded HUGE and was beloved by the community like almost nothing else in terms of romcoms and became hugely successful immediately selling HUGE numbers. It's also VERY horny.
