Television The Anime and Manga Thread: v45

Not a series, but the movie Sword of the Stranger often comes up in discussions for top-tier fight animation.

If Legend of the Northern Blade ever got Animated , I hope some people from the Sword of the Stranger staff are on that team.

What are some shows that are considered to have insane fight animations?

I like Demon Slayer, but imo it doesn't have the GOAT tier animation that everyone says it does, but it does have some great moments where the story, action, music, and flashbacks all come together

Dorohedoro, god of high school, Hunter X hunter are some that come to mind. Going back in time Spriggan was a good movie also.

I wish HXH would finish

and have a full anime adaptation

They do have a full anime adaptation. At least up until the latest arc that the guy barely started.

That fucking ant arc would not end.

I’m saying

I wish the manga would finish

and subsequently
I wish all resulting chapters would be animated into an adaptation

I don't personally know Togashi, but it seems to me like the guy needs to admit that he's done making manga. Stop leaving everybody in the lurch. Either let it be dead, or switch to writing and let somebody else handle the artwork (the reasoning for the hiatuses has always been that his back is fucked up and he can't really draw much).

Modern anime is frustrating to me.
They cater too much to shonen with kind of subpar stories.
Whilst 90s and early 00s anime was lit with the likes of Dragon Ball Z, etc.

Once in a while you get gems, but its rare.
Pretty much binged the Isekai genre and I really like that.
Rising of the Shield Hero was fun, and I really want a season 2 which is supposed to come.
Dragon Ball is pretty much my favorite historical franchise but I think TOEI & Toryama are butchering it with Dragon Ball Super.
Even the latest film seems to have abysmal graphics and lacklustre scenario compared to the Broly film which was so good graphically.

Too often the modern anime seems to be about milking a franchise for money, without quality being involved.
It's almost like we're no longer in the golden age of anime.

The good old days:

Cowboy Bebop
Dragon Ball Z
Saint Seiya
Pokemon
Berserk
Ghost in the Shell
Vampire Hunter D
Rurouni Kenshin
Legend of the Galactic heroes
Gundam franchise
And many more

Those were anime.

I think this largely comes down to selection bias. Here in the west we generally only got the best-of-the-best when it came to stuff from the 90s and early 2000s. There were a ton of series that never made it over here compared to the current streaming market making where almost everything is available, including all the crap. Looking at your list, that spans stuff from the 80s (DBZ started in '89, LotGH '88, Saint Seiya '86) or even back to the late 70s if you include OG Gundamn.

Pokemon was, is, and always will be terrible.

I do feel that they really cant make serious anime anymore like texhnolyze or ergo proxy or lain anymore.

Though this might be just my own psychosis lol

Made in Abyss is one of the few modern anime that blew my mind.
Concept is so good.

I've been accused of being a Negative Nancy recently and, honestly, they're not exactly wrong. So, in an effort to be more positive in my posting, and maybe sparking some more discussion, I'm going to try posting thoughts on chapters that I read this week and particularly enjoyed. I think I'm going to try keeping this up through the end of the year, see how it goes.

The Great Mage Returns [105]- Surprisingly affective chapter.
Rebuild World [28]- Haven't had a person vs person chapter in a while, it'll be a good gauge of how the MC has progressed.
The Lazy Lord Masters the Sword [15]- A good look at the other character's progressions. It'll be interesting if the MC just does a single vertical slash next week.
Eleceed [138]- The final panel is gold. I wouldn't be surprised if new doctor dude heals the MC gratis.
The Constellation That Returned From Hell [55]- Beware the almighty finger!
Peerless Dad [198]- Finally got the identity of the old dude with the broom. Looking forward to the spar next chapter.
Sword Sheath's Child [92]- More backstory, new characters. Well handled emotional storytelling.
Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu [70]- Fun little sparing, funny seeing dead dude's bishonen effect. Storylines are starting to converge.

Supposedly his wife has been practice drawing it and has the whole story, I guess she did sailor moon

They still do it's just rare. Psycho Pass, From the New world, Terror in Resonance.

I think it's ok. I've never been as high on the anime as everyone else. I do think the concept is great but for some reason it's just never connected with me like everyone else.

Eleceed gets even better reading it on a site that already has 171 chapters out. Tho i still read on webtoon to see the translation difference honestly not that bad. There is a lot of stuff i read that out of no where webtoon ends up picking up

It's happened to me with five series I can think of off the top of my head: Tower of God, The Advanced Player of the Tutorial Tower, Teenage Mercenary/Mercenary Enrollment, Return to Player, and Spirit Hunter. I'm glad about that last one because the scanlations were spotty.

It's at least happened to like 10+ for me. Plus the ones you have mentioned. Tho out of the one you mentioned Spirit Hunter is the only one i haven't read
