Opinion The “Trudeau money” from Covid is pretty awesome.

But the people want universal Tru-dough!

PM wants employers to re-hire, cites 'enormous financial pressure' being felt

Questions still remain about whether the programs—including $9 billion in student financial assistance programs and coming commercial rent relief plan—have been enough to keep businesses and industries afloat.

More than 8 million unemployed Canadians continue to claim the $2,000 Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) but the government has hoped that as more businesses are allowed to reopen they would bring back laid off staff with the help of a 75 per cent wage subsidy, meaning the employees would no longer collect CERB. Take-up for the wage subsidy program continues to be lower than anticipated.

So far, 284,038 applications have been accepted for the subsidy program, totaling $7.9 billion in funding.

COVID-19 aid programs will have to end, others to be modified, Trudeau says

The most recent CERB figures show more than $41 billion in benefits to 8.25 million people, pushing further beyond its $35-billion budget.

The first cohort of CERB recipients will max out their benefits the first week of July, raising questions about what to do with those who still don't have a job, or those who can't qualify for employment insurance.

"The focus of the next phase of the CERB has to be about those individuals and also create incentives to work for those individuals where some job may be available for them," said Parisa Mahboubi, a senior policy analyst with the C.D. Howe Institute.

"The way that the CERB is designed may discourage them from accepting the job or looking for any job."

A group of experts convened by the think tank recommended the government consider extending CERB eligibility beyond the July cutoff, but turn it into an income-tested benefit for those who go back to work.

lol is there even enough jobs for all these people on CERB? What a disaster!

i read there were over a million more CERB applicants than there were jobless

There's definitely a lot of people taking advantage.

"but turn it into an income-tested benefit for those who go back to work."

Is there enough low paying jobs for people that are coming from ruined industries? They'll have to being paying this out for a long time since it might take years to recover.

I wonder how many people are devastated by the sudden and unexpected career change....

Labour shortage amid Depression-level unemployment: Businesses struggle to hire back workers getting CERB
https://nationalpost.com/news/a-lab...ck-employees-getting-cerb?video_autoplay=true

“Businesses are starting to re-open and as they do, the shortage of labour is a growing concern,” said Dan Kelly, the CFIB president. “I fully expect that we are going to have record unemployment and a shortage of labour at the same time.”

Just heard some guy talking to his buddy on the street. The dude said he was getting 1k every 2 weeks, and that his boss called him to come into work. Guy told his boss to go fuck himself. And this is exactly what Trudeau has created. Hindreds of thousands able bodied enployed sitting on their duffs. Absolutely ridiculos.

The far left doesn't care about future generations because they promote the idea of not having children.

This si a bit misleading. The last 2 PC PMs ranked up huge debt too.

All CND federal parties are fine with adding to the debt.

This is a lie. The Harper government was heavily criticized for all the cuts they made everywhere to balance the budget. They left q good budget and the liberal lied about it from the beginning and spent the cupboards bare.

Hardly compares to what the Liberals are doing now.

The funny thing is, people were angry with Harper. Now they're all brainwashed with leftism/Communism/Socialism and don't care anymore.

Pierre Trudeau set the precedent.

CND debt was higher when Harper left than when he took over.
