Opinion The “Trudeau money” from Covid is pretty awesome.

She had two jobs. With CEWS, she’s getting only one of them back but losing all her CERB
https://globalnews.ca/news/6930121/cews-two-jobs-lost-cerb/

Thanks to the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS), Kathleen Lanphere is getting back one of the two jobs she lost amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. But that will leave her worse off, financially, than she was before.

CEWS to the rescue. Create that illusion!

Omg !
An outlier exception who’s "worse off financially" but still has a job with benefits and a government program to fall back on means it’s all for nothing !!!

PM shrugs off 'few' CERB fraudsters, saying Ottawa didn't want to 'paralyze' payments program with checks
https://nationalpost.com/news/pm-sh...want-to-paralyze-payments-program-with-checks

Trudeau did not directly address those guidelines when asked about them at his daily pandemic press briefing. But he insisted the government is monitoring for fraud and will recoup improper payments eventually. And he said abuse likely represents just a “few” people among the almost eight million applicants.

The key part is CEWS keeping her job alive.

Unemployment is higher than 13%.

Why do you keep posting pics of ppl joke posing with Canadian Tire money (a store customer rebate slip) on this thread ?

Is it to let your American / Not Canadian brethren think that’s its chavs posing with real Canadian dollars after scamming the government ?

Also, yeah, on the off chance that there maybe some people trying to game the system, it is wise not to hold up the whole system when people need that money NOW.

They can always get them later. Just like they do / did with MSP payments and Welfare.
Not all, but they do suddenly pop up and demand that shit back.

A kind of loose analogy would be, imagine standing in a long line at the bank during your lunch hour. The teller, to cut back on fraud, has been told to scan and photocopy every ID presented. A call to the DMV office, passport office to confirm it and a detailed form to be filled out by the client. Every cheque presented must past a battery of counterfeiting tests and a call to the drawee bank and the cheque signer, to confirm. All cash must have each bill individually scrutinised and checked before deposit.
Yeah wouldn’t work, would it ?

The minor possible saving isn’t worth the immense discomfort and harassment you’re causing legit and honest clientele.

Maybe? There's over 200,000 people trying to game the system.

I haven't made an argument by the way. I hope they continue to hand out money.

Tru-dough will finance the boog.

Shows how bad our economy is doing.

Federal COVID 19 wage subsidy to last through summer, Trudeau says
Link

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says a federal wage subsidy for employees in businesses hit hard by COVID-19 will last at least until the end of August.

The subsidy was set to expire in the first week of June, only a few weeks after the first payments rolled out.

Every Canadian gets 2k a month who applies as long as you’re over 18 and made over $1000 in 2019.

That’s everyone. We’re automatically approved they’ll sort out who actually deserves it next year.

Direct deposited in 2 business days.

I love that handsome man.

I will admit to some jealousy over your Trubucks.

I think we will also see a significant difference in the speed at which the US and Canadian economies get back on their feet following their reopenings. Based on the significantly different priorities their public spending choices placed on the demand side.

He is a spoiled rich kid who never had a real job so of course he would not think anyone would scam for $2K/month.

The CRA will catch these scammers next tax season. I just hope they impose a penalty, interest on CERB, or soething.

At least house keepers and whores will become a lot cheaper … you know b/c life willb e cheap af

There's something seriously wrong with socialists. They don't care how it's done just as long as they get free money. They will forever live in the now and never care about the future. They are begging for their own disarmament and enslavement and will attempt to drag millions down with them. They must be stopped.

Trudeau and Morneau need a plan to stop spending
https://nationalpost.com/opinion/kelly-mcparland-trudeau-and-morneau-need-a-plan-to-stop-spending

Someone has to tell Justin Trudeau it’s time to stop the cash free-for-all.

For more than 50 days the prime minister has held daily briefings at which he avoids answering direct questions while unveiling the latest plans for blanketing the country with borrowed money.

If you're still wondering why he's doing this after reading the entire article, it's because he's buying votes.

People will still vote for this.

Taxpayers will be on the hook later for today's COVID-19 largesse
https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/taxpayers-covid-19-largesse-1.5571519

As procrastinators buckle down for the fast-approaching June 1 extended federal tax deadline, it's worth recalling that income taxes were an innovation in 1917 to deal with a previous fiscal crisis.

Last week, Canadian Finance Minister Bill Morneau insisted that despite the nation's current financial pickle, he is not contemplating raising taxes just now, even as the Parliamentary Budget Office suggested public debt could this fiscal year for the first time reach $1 trillion at the federal level alone.

Anyone else have a skyrocketing utility bill? Our bill in January was $370'ish. It's over $500 now. Granted we are home more, but we're also not heating our house in -20 to -30 weather. The "administrative fees" seem to account for more and more each time we look...

New advocacy group joins push for green recovery from COVID-19's economic shock

Environmentalists want stimulus funds to focus on 'shovel-worthy' sustainable projects

"A carbon tax is obviously what people think about when they think about green policy, but there's lots of other things that can be done that are still green,"

These people are insane.

This is going to cause Trudolla riots. Take full advantage!

Number of CERB claimants topped number of jobless by a million last month, statistics show
https://nationalpost.com/news/numbe...ast-month-statistics-show?video_autoplay=true

But by April 19, the government had received CERB claims from 6.7 million people, a difference of more than a million people.

Economists are divided about what that means. Some suggest it’s simply a statistical anomaly, the employment numbers not lining up chronologically with CERB stats.

“It’s close enough that it’s likely a timing issue,” said David Macdonald, a senior economist with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.

Others believe it’s at least partly explained by Canadians taking advantage of a wide-open benefits scheme, legally or not.

“The capacity for abuse or opportunistic behaviour in this program is enormous,” said Philip Cross, a former Statistics Canada economist and fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute. “If you advertise that you’re going to be approved — no questions asked — you’re going to get pensioners applying for it.”
