That time Stephan Bonnar beat Jon Jones....

To be fair, Jones was super green and didn't have much training in anything except wrestling. He did a lot of suplexes and some unorthodox stuff, but didn't master the fundmentals until he went to Jackson's. Bonnar was already an experienced fighter. He was also a huge LHW and former Golden Gloves boxer.

I still remember watching Jones' debut against Gusmao and thinking Jones looked completely average.

Never been more wrong in my life.
Haven't watched that fight in years, but I remember thinking he won that.

Everyone has beaten Jon Jones one way or another

Honestly. I didn't think Jon would be anything special ( GOAT ) until the Vera fight.... Then I was like " Ok , this kid has some dog in him "...
Well Vera was supposed to be Jon Jones but he never panned out so that makes sense

I remember Bonnar apologizing to Dana in the back, and Dana telling him not to worry about it. That he'd always have a place in the UFC.

Of all Jones decisions he only unanimously didn't lose a round vs Smiffy, OSP and GloTex, and I don't agree with GloTex as I remember scoring a round for him.

He also lost round 1 vs Machida. He dropped rounds to Cormier in both fights, so he also dropped rounds in fights where he got finishes too.

It's not like Khabib where it was genuinely a rare occurrence.

He did lose third but overall it was a clear dec for Bones. Of course he wasnt the fighter he became to be yet but you could see the trend and potential.

And maaaaany people here picked Shogun to destroy him. Oh I remember well. There were multiple "war wagons" crashed that night.

Jones is overrated
Andy finished Bonnar with a single knee to the body

It's funny how clickbait has become so normal that we don't even give a shit.

Obviously the topic should be "Bonnar won a round vs Jones" (which isn't controversial at all) and yet the topic reads "That time Stephan Bonnar beat Jon Jones" (which is controversial).

I get it why the media use clickbait - it produces clicks, makes money. But why the fuck would you be clickbaiting on a karate forum?

I remember reading Sherdog about some guy with a long ass reach joining the UFC and fighting Gusmao to watch out for him. At the time he was supposed to be a Cyrille Diabate type body but with wrestling. I followed him from his first fight until his retirment and knew he was special after watching his first fight. It was such a cool experience to be able to pick and follow a guy from unknown to GOAT and pick it up early. Kind of felt like there was something inside of me that could spot early talent.
