TERMINATOR: DARK FATE v.2 (First Reactions)

Why do I feel this will be similar to Lost World or Force Awakens and rely too much on nastalgia with winks and nods to the originals rather than making this movie stand out.

Hard to say, given the state of film criticism these days. It's either too big of a pile of shit, that even the SJW critics weren't impressed, or it's not what those critics wanted and isn't the "woman power" flick they expected, or it's just an average flick in general.

God, I really hate how politics has infected film criticism to such a ridiculous degree, because you can't even tell what they're judging films on anymore.
 
there's not much else you can do with that storyline....which sounds crazy considering the ripe topics to be explored....AI, time travel, love, fate, etc.......but where else can they really take this particular franchise? Every concept in the Terminator is worth exploring...on their own in separate films. But keep trying to tie all of those concepts together under the Terminator name is gonna keep being rehashings of everything that's been explored already. Cameron understood that after the first one...but made the 2nd one anyway....and then he had the good sense to dip out. There's nowhere left to go with it.

I think there's plenty to explore, but the iconic characters overshadow the concept to the point where you can't.

Maybe they should take the concept away from the franchise, be inspired to build something new out of it, and quit trying to cash in on a familiar property? Just a thought.

It's not going to be really good. It's bright and modern blockbustery, and that's not good. Girl power b.s. is b.s. because the girl power b.s. was done organically in 1-2 and nobody cared, but now they've regressed into pretending they had to gpnfirther with it. That's b.s.

Should have made a dark and ominous lower budget terminator with actual human feelings..

No Terminator fan loves Terminator simply for the action. I don't care how many planes the T-800 can jump out of or how many guns are fired or how many car chases they've got or whatever. They're so missing the point.
 
Seems like it could be entertaining. I feel those early responses reflect the best we could have hoped for- safe and pretty good. I doubt any of us were expecting stellar/on par with the first two.
 
Who wants to sacrifice himself and go watch this to tell us how it is?
