Because Terminator has never had a strong female role(s).Is there actually illegal in America to make an action film without shoe horning in a bunch of women now?

Hamilton and Schwarzenegger are reprising their roles but sources say that their parts are relatively brief.

If it's not going to be rated R there's no point in thisGo smaller budget get people on board again with the franchise.
Do it for like 85 or max 100 mill only make it R rated and more of the feel of the first movie, good script, unknown actors with some talent and looks, make it more dark and gritty and more of a horror chase / no hope vs doom robot.. feel to it.
Limited in size have it more contained more focused.. get the magic back and with the people behind it after it made it's money and got the hype back then go for the big blockbuster 300 mill budget and huge promotion etc etc.
People don't trust the Terminator name no more they won't make your bank so you need to go small and to the core make it good so they have a reason to get hype for it.
Also Cameron go finish those damn Avatar movies or we will totally forget about them.
Good. He killed it as Ghost Rider.Update: April 13, 2018

Colombian actress Natalia Reyes has nabbed the starring role in the Terminator reboot.
Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger are returning to the fold while Blade Runner 2049 actress Mackenzie Davis is one of the new star additions to the sci-fi action project from Paramount and Skydance.
Gabriel Luna, who is known for playing Ghost Rider on ABC's Agents of SHIELD, has also been cast in the film, as well as Mexican-born Diego Boneto, known for his work in Scream Queens.
But the main role in the new Terminator is that of Dani, a young woman from a working class neighborhood in Mexico City who finds herself in the battle between humans and machines.
Luna will play a Terminator robot while Boneta will play Dani's brother. Davis is an soldier-assassin from the future.
Hamilton and Schwarzenegger are reprising their roles but sources say that their parts are relatively brief.
Skydance and filmmakers Tim Miller and James Cameron, directing and producing respectively, made a concerted effort to find a Latina actress and someone who they considered a “discovery," in the similar way Cameron did with Hamilton when he cast the young actress in his 1984 movie.
They came close a couple of times in the last few months but no cigar. Several weeks ago it was decided to broaden the search to central and South America, with seven actresses picked to screentest.
Reyes appeared in children’s programs in Colombia and has starred in two noteworthy Spanish-speaking series, Cumbia Ninja and Lady, the seller of roses (Lady, la vendedor de rosas). But what some sources say was the clincher was her work in Birds of Passage, the new film from Colombian filmmaker Ciro Guerra. Reyes is the lead of the film and buzz has the film heading for a debut at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
Now the cast is expected to begin training later in April with an eye towards a May production start. The film opens Nov. 22, 2019.

The thing about playing a Terminator is, its easy.
The trick is, casting a Terminator. The role requires a certain convincing physicality, that hasn't been followed through since T2.
Arnold and Robert Patrick are the only actors to play a terminator and nailed it.
T3 - Kristana Loken, played it well, but she wasn't convincing as a credible threat.
Salvation - Didn't actually have a Terminator, but the CGI Arnold was pretty awesome.
Genysis - LOL, yeah right. The Asian T1000 was laughable.
Sara Connor Chronicles - The guy that played a Terminator was never intimidating. Period.
So looking at the pictures I posted above of the new guy playing a Terminator, just based off his face, would YOU personally say he'd hold his own (in physicality) to Arnold and Robert Patrick...
... or will he be thrown into the heap of completely forgetable Terminator castings for the past 25 years?
This little shit is going to be playing a Terminator?
No fuckin way could he pass as a T-800. A T-1000, maybe. But he's gonna need to put on 20 pounds of muscle like Robert Patrick did and learn the walk, and mannerisms. I suppose it's technically possible they could make him intimidating if they really tried. But I have little faith at this point. Every villain post-T2 has been a neutered joke. James Cameron is the one single thing that gives me a glimmer of hope. But man, I'm not exactly bouncing off the walls with excitement over this. I hope it proves me wrong, and I'll be the first to admit it if it does, but as of this moment....meh.
But now they have to market the whole movie about how it's all about 'strong female characters.' One of the golden rules of film is 'show me, don't tell me.'
Put a competent actress im a well written role and let her show us how great she is, they don't need to tell us in advance. It's hacky.
This guy was pretty good.

Movie ate shit, but he did his job.
I don't know if it was him or the movie itself but I got absolutely nothing from the T-1000 in TG. It wasn't scary or intimidating at all. How they could take one of the most threatening villains of all time and turn him into the least threatening thing possible is beyond me.
The T-1000 from T2 is still intimidating as shit.
(Btw, the CGI for the T-1000 in T2 is better than the CGI for the T-1000 in TG. How is that possible?!)
