Teminator vs Terminator 2 - Alien vs Aliens

If his resume were limited to T1, Aliens, The Abyss, The Rock and Tombstone, he would be the John Cazale of action films.
Tombstone...good one. Kilmer too; he took on another soul to become Doc. Do you reckon Val is as dependent on a good director as Biehn in delivering?

Good question... I think Val Kilmer probably brings a more consistent baseline to a movie.

He was good in a number of his lesser (non Top Gun, The Doors and Heat) films like Top Secret, Felon, Wonderland, Island of Dr. Moreau, etc. He was even decent in crappy big budget stuff like The Saint.

However, like Michael Biehn, he has done a lot of movies that didn't make it to theatres and I really haven't watched very many of them. He might be pretty crappy in them. But from the movies I have watched, Biehn is capable of lower lows than what I've seen from Val Kilmer.

Since Indepence Day, we've all seen the world blow up a million times in a million movies, but James Cameron really brought something creative and horrific to the table with that scene at that time. Even he found it a bit scarring to put together and film.

He won an award or got some kind of special recognition by some group (experts) who said he captured almost perfectly what would happen in a real nuclear explosion in that scene. (Heard this from the Special Features of T2)

It's funny how most movies that depict mass destruction (some of which can be exciting and cool like ID4) are so lifeless or emotionally empty when it comes to the actual destruction aspect. To be honest, I'm struggling to think of any film (outside of a few war films) that truly capture the horror of certain things like that. But I believe the scene in T2 is the GOAT Hollywood representation of what would actually happen during a nuclear explosion.

Well said, A.

Do you watch any of A. Tarkowskij's works? Although not explicitly 'fission bombs' or whatnot going off, he is one of the only artists (for me) to discern by such cold distance who we think we are, and what we in fact are; the aftereffects of his artistry leave me with a disbelief, duplicity and emptiness that I imagine to follow surviving a world-changing nuclear offencive.

Check out his stuff at some point but make sure you are in the mood to sit, watch and think.

Aliens is one of my favorite all time films. Just look ay the impact it had on the space sci-fi genre.

Nothing has come close to it. The Space Marines in Halo, the drop ships are all so tied to what the Colonial Marines look like in Aliens.

Then you have the use of Bishop, lots of other movies have tried to mimic it but with no success. (Yes I know Alien had the synthetic first).

I liked the change in Aliens, you have a bunch of badass hard chargers with actual personality that you were invested in. Hicks, Apone, Drake, Vasquez and the crew. All awesome Marines with enough personality that you were invested in them.

Not to mention this:

It's impressive that we remember characters like Drake and Apone by name when they are barely even significant to the storyline. Drake is like the 10th lead or something. Does anybody remember the names of any character other than Ripley in Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection, or any of the names of the characters in Predator 2, or Predators...

Aliens is a masterpiece.

Wierzboswki! Wierzbowski!!!

T-2 was definitely better than T-1.

But Alien is truly just a great movie. I don't just mean a good horror movie, it was just a well done and compelling movie.

Both sequels are better. Aliens is my favorite movie and I was actually just talking about it to someone this morning. Was telling her about after watching it the first time I checked the ceiling in every room I walked into for aliens.

I love all. They're hard to compare directly to one another though. Like T1 and T2 are both 10/10 in my book, but for different reasons. As far as all four of these films go though, I can't watch one without watching the other. Meaning, if I watch Alien, I have to watch Aliens (maybe not same day, but within a few days) and same goes for The Terminator and T2. Or if I'm specifically in the mood for Aliens, I can't watch it without watching Alien first. Same with Terminator. If I suddenly desire to watch T2, I have to watch The Terminator first. Both sets from each franchise are intrinsically linked and go hand in hand with one another.

Also, everything in the Alien universe post-Aliens doesn't exist as far as I am concerned (though Alien: Isolation gets a pass because it was amazing). Same with Terminator. Everything after James Cameron's direct involvement is dead to me.

I Co sign this.

Cameron is arguably the greatest director. Anything after him will fail in comparison.

I think of Cameron like a hartori sword

2nd off, it did not have more "realized violence" than T1.

One robot cyborg shooting another cyborg is not shit. And lol at your stupid gif of a piece of metal shattering....ohhhhh so violent. Ugh.

T1 has the eye cut out scene if you want to go for gross out. You also had arnold punching a hole through a punk.
You had arnold beating ginger's bf to death. You have him kill two sarah conors and ginger.
You had him ohhhh I don't know, kill a whole fucking police station.

And in the future you had an HK just taking out a whole group of survivors with many women and children getting killed.

To say that T2 had more violence that T1 you didn't see both movies or you are retarded.

Agree with this

No I haven't. I don't play that many games actually. Is it good?
its literally the most terrifying game ever created, and you cant even really die in the first half hour. Once the alien showes up though, its only total sudden death all the time.

BTW,the post apocalyptic scenes in the first two terminator movies are unbelievable. The idea that its pretty much a silent black wasteland of skulls, and soulless machines searching/hunting for the last survivors is truly amazing and frightening. Especially since something like that could happen.

If you've ever wanted to free roam on the nostromo...i strongly suggest checking it out. it's story is also strong enough that i dont mind it being considered canon.

the developers have captured everything about the original alien in terms of mood, lighting, environment...the alien...everything.

it's worth the play through. especially for the 1979 alien movie fans.

here's the intro menu...listen to the music. feel the vibe? it's fucking alien.

Funny thing is If I remember correctly another poster suggested this game as well.

I have a ps4 and recently played the witcher but that's the only game I have for ps4

Yeah, the future scenes in T1 were fucking scary.
This song also reminded me of it for some reason
